Options for speakers for my Mac Book Air?

Recommended Posts

Having a dinner with a bunch of friends coming up, and want to bring my mac book air.

Although the built in speaker is loud, would like a little louder. Any recommendations on what I could get (I assume it would have to be a Bluetooth speaker).

Thanks

What about that Zeppelin looking thing I always see in the apple store ?

If you want bluetooth - I have no idea.

If you want speakers with some type of built in amp - I think you're gonna have to use some type of cabling - unless there is already a Thunderbolt set

don't mac book airs have a standard headphone jack?

Of course they do.

The only thing I can say is the following: DO NOT GET A BLUETOOTH SET.

Bluetooth is a crappy wireless standard. It's okay for calls and stuff, but the audio quality if you stream using A2DP is absolutely horrible. It's like listening to 96Kbps MP3's all the time. Why? Because Bluetooth has the most ****ty bandwith ever.

Just get a good set of speakers and connect them through the regular audio jack. Creative speakers are still really good, Altec Lansing is another one of my favourites. Try to stay away from Logitech (my personal opinion).

If you really want it to be wireless, get an Apple AirPort Express and use it with AirPlay! It's not very cheap, but at least the sound quality is good!

Yes, they do, so I don't see what the point of this thread is at all. ANY set of speakers will work with it. Pick up a cheap set at Walmart or where ever and plug them in. Problem solved.

while a more permanent solution, a hi-fi amp and speakers will produce far better sound output than anything sold as a computer speaker. Companies like Cambridge Audio and Pioneer sell systems for around $150 which sound ok by hi-fi standards, and will be far nicer than anything you can find in the PC audio market.
