I am finally getting around to getting a Blue-ray player/model, what brand(s) do you guys recommend for of course playing Blue-ray's but also I have quite a few archived DVD's as well or DIVX/XVid movies and one that would play these with little to no issues. Thank You.

We have Sony's. They have plenty of streaming applets, more than their ads & boxes usually list, and can show pics or videos (mpg, mp4, mkv etc) from USB sticks or an externally powered USB drive.

When you say archived you mean on your computer ripped I am assuming right?
If so, a PS3 with the free software PS3 media center plays 95% of the files I throw at it with no issues at all, and is even capable of doing DTS through streaming which is great as well. Plus you get a pretty kick ass gaming system. Sure, it is more money then just a stand alone, but I think it would meet all your needs and then some.

yes I rip a lot of my movies so when I lend family/friends my movies I don't really care as much if they come back all scratched. I can't justify spending that $$$ for a mutli-system device like that. Personally I can't stand consoles so that just would be a wasted expense for me.

I have a Panasonic 210 as my primary Bluray player, but I would highly +1 Larry's suggestion if you spend the extra money. Ps3 is an excellent player, ps media server is one of the best streaming service out there. My only complaint was the old fat ps3 didn't pass the he codecs along, this has been fixed on the slim models
I would def not cheap out on whatever player you choose, esp those $50 ones at Walmart

If you had a receiver the ps3 wouldn't pass the dts-hd or Dolby hd to the receiver, you had to use PCM. In theory it was the same signal being sent but I'm OCD and need to see it on my receiver.
