Hey,

I'm planning to do a partial update of my aging hardware. Currently I have: ga-p35-ds3p mobo, c2d E8200, 2x1gb patriot 800mhz cl4, 8800gt and Tagan 400w to power it up.
I've decided to buy radeon 6850 (asus dcu II) and 2 additional gb of ram - don't have enough money to replace all parts. Now with that I have two worries/questions:
1. How much should I overclock my E8200 to minimize bottlenecking effect on 6850?
2. Considering new card (already slightly o/cd by asus) and additional ram, do I need a new PSU?

Did you already order your graphics card and ram already? If not than I suggest you should wait until you have enough funds.

And also the power requirements for your HD6850 is at least 500W.

With more and more games benefiting quite a bit from more than 2 cores, your cpu is gonna be holding things back in ways no realistically reachable overclock will make up for.

i also think youre better off waiting until you can do a better upgrade. those parts are going to hold you back. many games these days use 4 cores and benefit from a high clock speed.

Will get these two together, even if I have to use Duct Tape

you should've seen my friend,

He first had Core2Duo 3.2 ghz gtx260 and 8 gb of ram

and somehow the Core2Duo already was bottlenecking that setup. so now he has AMD x6 with 16gb ram able to run anything he throws against it (software wise)

So you really need to look at the Rams and CPU speed.

Videocard isnt that big of a worry... yet.
