Opinion needed on PowerPoint Presentation

Question

i've been thinking about freelancing as a 'powerpoint' designer/consultant on a part-time basis after seeing a plethora of cheesy/gimmicky presentations over the years. i wanted to get opinions from the masses as to whether i've got the skills for this...

i've attached a presentation i created for my final project presentation for my accounting designation. how would you rate the quality of the slides, and would you recommend i give freelancing a shot? (ideally, i'd like to be creating presentations for business users because that's my professional/academic background)

thanks in advance :)

note - the animations look best in office 2010/2011...so if you're running the presentation on 2007, you can ignore the small inconsistencies.

I like it, everything is very consistent and looks good. I'd try to clean the design up a little though, there are just too many elements visible at certain times. Your skills with PowerPoint are obvious.

There is however one small remark I have. The content of this kind of presentations doesn't need designing, at least not if they're meant to be used internally. If this was to be external it contains too much information for a presentation and would be much better suited for a regular document. But I can't judge the content of this presentation good enough to figure out what it's meant to be used for. I can imagine that if you'd be working as a designer you wouldn't be worrying about the content. For more information about what I meant about the type of presentation you could have a look at this video: http://bit.ly/mTussO - Duarte has a lot more videos on their channel about presentations as it's all they do. Perhaps an interesting company to look into, maybe even professionally?

(I had to bit.ly the link, Neowin tries to embed any vimeo links, even between URL tags, but this video doesn't allow embedding)

thanks! i'm checking out duarte's videos.. they are quite useful.

i wasn't a fan of some of the elements either but i was working with 4 other people and they insisted upon them. but still good feedback...i hope to use this as my portfolio or at least some aspects of it.

    • $80 or 90%, anything else would be financial suicide one way or another.
    • Or... just use Bitwarden. Free, and has on-prem option as well. Works both on desktop and mobile, wherever you are. The age of local password files is over.
    • Thanks
    • I actually got to use one of those so called "backup codes" once. It was for a customer, I choose the backup code option, and by the grace of god, they actually hade them printed out. Imagine my surprise, when after using the backup code, Google then told use we had to enter a code they just sent to the gmail address we currently did not have access to. I was not amused, Google backup codes should be the end all get out of jail free card, because you had to have access to the account to even get them.
    • On the topic of being locked out of a service. Recently two different friends of mine got locked out of their Google accounts. Both were hack attempts and one of them is waiting 30 days before he can get back in. He had backup codes and MFA but not a passkey. It was a browser token hack. Anyhow he has to wait 30 days for the dispute or whatever to end. The other person only had a password and is screwed losing all of the email, docs and years of photos. Google won’t help her at all. Her fault because she had no backup/recovery setup. Enable passkeys if possible. Also do NOT use browser based password managers. If using a cloud service make sure it is one you can fully sync to one of your devices so you can back it up. Like a PC or Mac with some backup drive plugged into it. Google is the worst to use IMHO. You can’t sync your photos at all. You have to use the “Take Out” service which is manual and takes days. That service strips the meta data from your photos. Also Google Docs synced to a device are useless without a Google accounts. MS Office/Libre Office is not going to open a link to a Google doc to a dead account.
