I Dont like Windows 8 on desktop, but for tablet it looks far better than iOS and android. I was confused between the new ipad and surface, but now im going to buy surface for sure.

Windows 8 is definitely the most powerful. All the rest are basically equivalent to Windows RT in functionality.

I know you'll probably argue with me and say that Android is awesome, but you can't compete with the breadth of software for Windows - which is awesome for when you dock your tablet when you're ready to get down to business and do real work. Windows 8 is both work and play.

I don't want to have to buy both a laptop and a tablet.

iPad.

I played with the Androids when i went to pick up my first ever iPad and i couldn't find any reason to pick one over the iPad. My line manager at work got a Galaxy Tab and she wanted her calendars syncing and email setting up.. i experienced more crashes and lags in the half hour i used it than i've ever experienced on a smartphone and tablet combined. And getting her calendars (Exchange) onto the device was a nightmare... in fact i think we went with a half baked solution.

I regularly ask her how she's getting on with it, and every time she replies 'i don't use it, i can't get into it' and uses her iphone instead.

iOS is simple and lacks customisation but it has one clear focus => apps, and it executes that very well with it's no#1 AppStore. Widgets n stuff only go so far, make it look prettier or whatever, but we spend most of the time in Apps, so i believe apple has got their focus right.

So after this point i've not had a desire to try Android again. Windows RT on the other hand, i'm eager to try one.

I would have said Android until the beginning of the year when ASUS turned my half grand Transformer into an irritating rebooting crashing paperweight

Since playing with Win 8 I have voted for that, I think its a great OS for a tablet, Metro screams touch me I'm a tablet :p

I've not used a Windows tablet, but I really like (and use) Windows Phone 7 and am pretty excited for what I've seen for Windows RT.

I find iOS totally fine, but kind of boring. Every exposure I've had to Android on a tablet has been a lousy experience.

  • 2 weeks later...

Windows 8 on the MS Surface pro (as my next main computer)

Android 4.1 on the Nexus 7 (as secondary device for couch surfing, reading on the loo etc)

You would seriously buy a MS Surface and a secondary tablet? Isn't that... really redundant?

Windows Surface RT for both of my kids, and Surface Pro for me, unless an OEM comes out with something outstandingly better. After using Win 8 on the desktop, I went back to Windows 7 and went blah and installed 8 again. It grown on me majorly. I know Apple own the market, but Windows 8 on Tablet I think is going to cause them some serious pain. Which is only good for us consumers!

Not really - the form factor of the Nexus 7 makes it a better option for several use cases. Also, it'll make for an inexpensive fallback device.

I prefer Android as it gives users a lot of freedom to customise there experience, and still retains enough simplicity for a novice to just pickup and use the tablet.

iOS feels a bit too basic for me, going by the experience on my mates first gen iPad all you get is a wall of apps you can launch, i found it a bit too boring personally.

As for Windows RT, i'm interested however i think its going to need a couple of years to mature. In its current state i don't think its something i would use solely on a tablet. However as a Netbook / Tablet hybrid i'm interested.

Android all the way. iOS a second. Wouldn't use RT though, hate it with a passion.

I love Android. I wish I could run it on my desktop.

*cough androidx86 cough* (no Android market or Google experience apps though, sadly)

I can't see voting for RT since we don't know enough about it yet.

I can't live without the Market.

Unfortunately most ports of the Android code to non supported devices don't have the market. As for RT, I think I've seen enough of it to have an informed opinion. Granted the experience will be a bit different with a tablet in input terms, but I think we can pass judgement on the design aspects fairly readily

Currently using Win 7 and Android ICS on my mobile devices; for now I'll say Android on a tablet. No RT tablets out on the market yet so it's mostly purely speculation.. but from what I've seen so far I'm 99% sure I'll be switching to Windows across the board once it's available.

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
    • Aren`t "security features" and "AI model that can see your screen" a tad diametric!
    • Samsung, Amazon extend 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD deal beyond Prime Day 2026 by Sayan Sen Recently, we had Amazon's Prime Day 2026 sales wherein there were several great deals including on SSDs. One of those discounted components was the Samsung 990 PRO SSD as the 2TB variant of it was selling for $370, a very good price after a long time. Although that deal was supposed to expire today, Amazon has now extended that sale further (purchase link under the specs table down below). The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $400. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more. The technical specs of the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB are given in the table below: Specification Value Form Factor M.2 2280 Interface PCIe Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe 2.0 NAND Flash Samsung V-NAND TLC Controller Samsung In-house Controller Cache Memory Samsung 2GB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM Sequential Read Speed Up to 7,450 MB/s Sequential Write Speed Up to 6,900 MB/s Random Read (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,400,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,550,000 IOPS Random Read (4KB, QD1) Up to 22,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD1) Up to 80,000 IOPS Operating Temperature 0°C to 70°C Reliability (MTBF) 1.5 Million Hours Endurance 1,200 TBW (Total Bytes Written) Get it at the link below: Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB NVMe SSD (MZ-V9P2T0B/AM): $369.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
