PSN Play back for another year

Recommended Posts

PSN Play, which seems to be Sony?s answer to Xbox LIVE Summer of Arcade, is back for another year, giving gamers the chance to save money on four new games: The Expendables 2 Videogame (PS3), Sound Shapes (PS3/ PS Vita), Papo & Yo (PS3) and Counter Strike: Global Offensive (PS3).

The deal will allow you to buy any 2 PLAY games in the PlayStation Store and get $3 credit back, buy any 3 PLAY games to get $6 credit, or pick up all 4 PLAY titles for a $10 credit to spend on anything you want in the PlayStation Store.

PlayStation Plus members get a 20% discount on each of the four games when pre-ordering or buying during a game?s launch week. Pre-order any PLAY title in the series for a free PS3 theme of the game.

Given the currency above, this deal is obviously US related, however here in the UK and Europe we got a similar deal last year, so expect the same again.

Doesn't entirely sound like summer of arcade but more like XBL rewards?

Just preordered Counter Strike Global Offensive for $11.99 since I am a Playstation + subscriber.

I was going to do so regardless, but one bullet point really, really stood out to me as I confirmed my purchase...

Developing for PlayStation 3 gave us a great opportunity to take advantage of the unique qualities of the platform. For example, we?re supporting a wide range of input devices including the PlayStation Move, PlayStation Move sharp shooter, and even keyboard and mouse.

The part I bolded. YES. My wireless keyboard and mouse Logitech combo I purchased specifically for Unreal Tournament 4 way back when for my PS3 is finally making a comeback. So very pysched.

Now yes, obviously this is a PC gaming franchise, and as such should be played on the PC. But I make no qualms admitting that these days I prefer gaming on my couch on my 55" TV. After working in front of a computer all day, the last thing I feel like doing is sitting in front of my PC when I get home. So yeah, even though me using a keyboard and mouse begs the question, "then why not just play it on the PC," again I would answer because I like my TV and my couch.

What is even better is this snippet...

Naturally, support for these devices means that different players in the same match might be using different controllers. Players using mouse and keyboard might end up playing against players using a joystick or motion controls. Our matchmaking system allows us to support all of these input devices without disrupting the balance of the game ? you?ll be matched against players who perform at your skill level, regardless of what controller you (or they) choose to use. The system maintains a separate ranking for each input device, so players should feel free to experiment with each one.

Hell, after reading that, I am even going to dust off the old Move peripherals and see what that is all about as well.

Actually pretty damn excited to have CS coming to the consoles. A few years ago I would have literally said what a terrible, terrible idea, but I now have a much more open mind.

The above two quotes, and the rest of the article, can be found on the Playstation Blog.

And actually, I will probably also wind up purchasing the PC version as well. But going to hold off on doing so after checking out the PS3 version.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • This is weird. Mythos is more unrestricted compared to Fable. Technically it poses more risk!!
    • This is a great thing, I always have issues with Verizon while inside of certain football stadiums due to the saturation and walls blocking signal so a LOS way to connect would be great. Verizon was supposed to be offering sat data this year but I've not heard a word of it lately. Dude is sending rockets into space in a cheap manner, low waste foot print and has a great product with solar/battery tech. We would be so far behind China right now if not for him and a push to get back into space.
    • illegally? Proof of that? Seems you are posting misinformation or well a pure straight up lie cause there is zero proof of such a thing. But I get it...
