How do you power your Xbox wireless controller?

Recommended Posts

I've only just realised that they discontinued their rechargeable battery packs and it sucks because over the last few weeks, three of mine have stopped holding charge :(

So what are the alternatives? And what do you guys prefer?

I own the play and charge kit and the quick charge kit, so was hoping for some recommendations of products that would work with these :p

Umm.. what ?

I see them on Amazon and other places for sale.. [ http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Rechargeable-Controller-Battery-Black/dp/B000OYIVGM ]

I use that, or keep it wired.. I have a USB extension cable that means I can reach anywhere in my room that I would be interested in playing from..

I've always used 'Play and Charge' kits. However, I haven't had much success with third party charging cables. The last one I used caused a short-circuit. The Battery was fine though. ... Can't really get that wrong. Just a couple of rechargeable AA's in a pack.

In short, you can use any controller charging cable with any rechargeable battery pack.

The USB cable from the play and charge kit at the moment, the battery's are useless :/ I replaced 3 of mine with official battery packs and all but 1 of the battrey packs stopped holding charge again after 6 months...

I'm tempted to just buy some good rechargeable batteries.

Ah not here in the UK, the only one's that I've ever managed to find are either Used, third party or new but way over priced.

Well, I'm not so sure about just throwing in rechargeable batteries by themselves. I was referring to third party battery packs. There is a contact on the back of the controller that these battery packs interface with... I think that's where the connector at the top of the controller charges the battery packs.

From when I bought my xbox (2006) to probably last year or so, I used the play-and-charge kit. But the battery stopped holding a charge. Since then, I've used normal rechargeable batteries. I bought a 4 pack and I already had a charger. So when 2 die, I switch the ones in the charger for the ones in the controller, and repeat. 10 bucks for 4 batteries has lasted me plenty long enough already and they don't seem to be losing charge. So I think it's more cost effective than the official p/c kit.

Play and Charge kits all the way, but only official MS ones. I've got 2 official both are brilliant still working strong after years, got 2 un-official and they're S**T, one holds no charge at all, the other about 2 mins...

The key as with most batteries is to not charge them when they're half charged.

I had one, which kept loosing it's charge after 5-6 months.

Emailed Microsoft and they sent me a replacement free :) If you've got one, ring Microsoft there very good for returns :D

I had a old keyboard and broken one of the legs, I rang Microsoft up to see if I could get a replacement leg and they sent me a brand new keyboard :)

Official Recharge pack w/ Charging station.

Periodically they seemed to not hold a charge, then I let it discharge completely with use on the controller, then recharge it using usb cable to controller which fixes that for a while.

I suspect it's due to the base doing a rapid charge, and the usb cable does trickle charge.

It seems that loads of folk use the battery packs, why did they get rid of them :(

Think that I may go down the path of buying myself some rechargeable batteries and stick with those as long as possible. Shame.

I use a Venom Twin Charging dock that you sit two controllers on. It comes with it's own re-chargeable batteries with special connectors on the back that connect to the dock. The batteries work quite well, hold their charge for ages... several days at least at a couple of hours a day (dunno really as I dock them controllers most of the time).

?12.29 for the dock AND two re-chargeable battery packs.

    • The only reason I want to know where you from is because if you are not from the U.K, then why should you care what we in the U.K do or don't do? Racist I am not, I am fed up with the amount coming over here and feel they can come over here and think we need to support them. Do you know how much it costs this country to support these people coming over here? Even when we give them a place to live it is not good enough. We had a barge that was being used to house immigrants, oh but that was not good enough. A mate said to me at the time, when he was homeless, he would have been happy to live on the barge, instead of ending up sleeping on a bench on the beach. I am not scared to say what my family heritage is, unlike you who is scared to say where they are from or where they live. Father side U.S, mother side Wales, still have family living in the U.S. A mate who sadly died a few years ago, had a load of people from different races recording in his studio, I got on with all of them. Skin colour don't bother me, where they are from don't bother me. Religion don't bother me as long as they don't push it onto me and it is not crazy stuff. I am not religious. But if you are not living in the U.K, then why should you care if we are in the E.U or not? This the problem, too many people poking their noses into where it don't belong. But you believe what you believe, if you think I am racist, then be it, I really do not care. Just grow a pair
    • If he hasn't been able to figure that out, then why is he obsessed with tariffs? Because that's one of the most prominent tools to level the playing field when you have high cost of labor.
    • Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5102558, KB5095615 Setup and Recovery updates by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft released the newest preview update (C-release) under KB5095093. Alongside those, Microsoft also released new dynamic updates. For those who may not know, dynamic updates bring improvements to the Windows Recovery process in the form of Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates, which are also called Safe OS updates. The dynamic updates also affect the Setup file binaries in the form of Setup updates. These Dynamic Update packages are meant to be applied to existing Windows images prior to their deployment. Dynamic Updates also help preserve Language Pack (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content during the upgrade process. VBScript, for example, is currently an FOD on Windows 11 24H2. This time both recovery and setup updates were released for Windows 11. The company writes: "KB5095186: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 26H1: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.28000.2335. KB5102558: Setup Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to Windows setup binaries or any files that setup uses for feature updates in Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows 11, version 25H2. KB5095615: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.26100.8737." Microsoft notes that both the Recovery and Setup updates will be downloaded and installed automatically via the Windows Update channel.
