Metal Gear Solid 4 Gets Trophy Support

Recommended Posts

Metal Gear Solid 4 will get a Trophy patch, according to an interview with Hideo Kojima in this week's Famitsu. The magazine does not reveal a date for the patch, but MGS4 is scheduled to receive a budget release in in August, so the timing could coincide with that.

The interview also reveals that Konami will hold a Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary Event on August 30 at Tokyo Midtown (the office complex that houses Konami's main office). There will be some sort of announcement at the this event, Kojima reveals in the interview. This announcement is apparently related to the vision he's previously shared about a game that connects people. Peace Walker's "Transfarring" component served as a test for this vision.

Unlike today's other Famitsu reports, which came from our usual sources, we're not totally sure of the source for this particular report, but we should have confirmation later in the day.

Update: This report does appear to be true! The Trophy support will be included out the box with a 3,990 yen "PlayStation 3 The Best" budget version of MGS4 in August. Current MGS4 owners will be able to patch their copy of the game.

I really, really dislike this "achievements&trophies" trend infecting modern and proper gaming experiences. They should infect mobile and "casual" titles and die there, from my standpoint. One of the things I hate the most in Diablo 3 is all this "achievements" pop-ups hitting my face on the screen for every little **** I do....

I feel the same way. It also seems like developers are getting lazy or tired with achievements when I see pop-up achievements just for passing a level/chapter.

Oh damn that full install would be sweet.... I hope it's going to be included in the patch :D

Looks like it's confirmed. :)

Kojima Productions has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4's upcoming patch will include not just Trophy support but full install functionality as well.

Very nice - I was looking for another reason to play through this game. Went through it twice already, but I could definitely go for a third ;).

I actually found that I enjoyed my second playthrough more than the first. The long cutscenes weren't quite as annoying the second time around, because at least I could mentally prepare for them and tune out the unimportant parts (of which there are many).

Yep, downloaded and installed, along with all the game data (and it automatically deletes the MGO data as well). It tells you when you start up that pre-2.00 saves won't earn you trophies, and 2.00+ saves can't be used on pre-2.00 versions of the game (just in case anyone doesn't know yet).

And I just counted the trophies: 34 in total, 15 hidden.

It was a badge of shame for me that MGS 4 was one of the first games I bought when I got a PS3 and never got around to playing it. It now seems my shame has paid off with some more trophies for me :)

Good luck on the platinum, folks. Getting all of the iPod songs requires all 40 emblems, which requires at least 8 playthroughs, including the Big Boss emblem.

Konami should give a special prize to the first person to get the Platinum trophy to award their unbelievable dedication. :p

I love how they 'disguised' the difficulty of this by having it under the ipod songs trophy  Tricked a few people on patch launch to thinking the platinum was easy.

    • Is it still super slow or has it improved on that area?
    • There's this from last year https://gist.github.com/threat...364659a8887841aa43deca4efd9 but nothing about a buffer overflow that MS somehow can't code against. No matter what, it makes sense to take a "protected by default" approach.
    • Popular Windows 11 file manager Files gets improved tags, layouts, and new OneDrive icon by Taras Buria Files, one of the best third-party file managers for Windows 11 out there, has received a minor update to version 4.1.3. The latest release brings a few quality-of-life improvements and new features, including an easier way to calculate folder sizes, improved tags, a new OneDrive icon, and more. Starting with folder size, File now has a dedicated "View size" button for each folder if you have the "Calculate folder sizes" option turned off in settings. This improves performance and allows you to see each folder's size only when needed. Note that folder size calculation could take some time depending on the number of files and their "weight." Next, Files can now retain file selection when switching layouts. While this change is rather minor, it lets you keep selected objects highlighted whenever you need to switch, say, from a list to a thumbnail layout. If you use tags, you will be glad to know that Files 4.1.3 makes it easier to remove all tags. You can do that with one of the following methods: From the context menu — right-click an item, open the Tags submenu, and choose Remove tags. From the toolbar — when the Edit Tags button is pinned to the toolbar, the same option appears in its menu. From the Command Palette — open the Command Palette and search for Remove tags. You can also assign your own keyboard shortcut to it from Settings. The final visible change is the new OneDrive icon. Files now pulls the icon directly from the OneDrive executable, which means the app always has the up-to-date version. As for the fixes, developers resolved the following bugs: Fixed an issue with extracting tar archives. Fixed an issue where the Signatures page would occasionally cause a crash. Fixed an issue where the Play action wasn’t available when a single media file was selected. Fixed an issue where Smart Extract would extract archives to the wrong location when switching tabs. Fixed an issue where tag search excluded folders when grouping by type. Fixed an issue where thumbnails would sometimes fail to refresh after a file was modified. Fixed an issue where a BitLocker-locked drive wasn’t displayed. Developers also revealed what is coming in future updates. Soon, Files Preview will get a new Tree View sidebar, allowing you to display folders in an expandable hierarchy, which is a popular way to browse deeply nested folders. Expect the feature to arrive in the preview channel in upcoming updates. You can download Files from the Microsoft Store (paid version) or its official website (free).
    • AI programs are riddled with bugs, and it's often surprising to see how little this is acknowledged. I guess it's all the rabid enthusiasm spurred by the blind investments in it because of the word "intelligence" in the nomenclature. AI has no intelligence at all, in and of itself, and it's just like any other program as it does what its programmers have told it to do, whether they like it or not, whether they realize it or not...
