How to get best picture quality from HDMI hookup

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have an ATI/ AMD video card with both HMDI and DVI outputs. I currently am using the HDMI connection to my HD monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1080 and is 1080P HD. I also use the Catalyst 12.6 drivers.

Is there anyway, or any software, that will maximize the actual quality of the graphics display i.e.. HDMI tweaks etc.. besides or including the settings in the Catalyst Control Center?

Thanks for any help!!

Increase the quality of full HD ? It's already full lol

For games you can install CAPs which help tweak graphics and performance for CFX and Single card setups

I guess you could increase sharpness in your LCD settings

Ok, cool! Now with that all said my dad bought me these insanely high quality video cables (I know it really doesn't matter but he insisted), an HDMI and a DVI. I do not use the audio signal from the HDMI so Picture wise (my monitor does 1920x1080 - 1080p HD) Would I then be better off using the DVI or is there some advantage in the video signal over HDMI.

I did notice more options in the Catalyst Control Center with the HDMI cable connected but I have not played with them.

I guess besides any suggestions I can just try them.

Thanks for any opinions!

DVI/HDMI are still digital so they won't degrade like the analogue component in. All it really does is save you putting in another cable for audio. New spec 'high speed' HDMI does support higher resolutions > 2560?1600 (The DVI maximum) but I doubt your monitor supports over that :)

There is nothing I would recommend worth messing around with other than ensuring your monitors colours and brightness are calibrated properly. You can do this from the Windows 7 control panel.

Yeh like said above, the cables will have the same image quality. Please tell your dad to stop wasting cash on the "high quality" ones :p

I calibrated my monitor properly a few weeks ago and couldn't believe the difference!

edit: don't forgett to make sure your monitor is on default settings before adjusting the control center picture settins, then go from there...

get a monitor/tv profiler such as datacolor spyder 3/4 (in your case the express for <100$ is fine). this will help you tune the colors of your screen and makes a huge difference. Photographers use them for getting the best colors from their devices.
