I've had my Gulftown iv Extreme build for some time now and built an HTPC system around Zambezi 8150 and I replaced it with a smaller form factor i3 build. I'm now wondering if the 8150 is suitable to replace my Gulftown build especially with Windows 8 around the corner.

I take it you have a 990X or 980X? - In which case stick with it as the 8 Core AMD chips are not faster than those. If you had a Core i7 920, 930, 940, 950 or 960 then there would be a reason to switch although personally I'd stick with the Tri-Channel memory that X58 provides.

AMD still have a lot of work to do on per core efficiency unfortunately.

Somewhat off-topic but has anyone released a comparison of Bulldozer on Windows 8 RTM vs. Windows 7? I remember a while back that AMD claimed there was supposed to be up to a 10-15% improvement on W8 because W7 didn't schedule the new architecture properly. I'm curious to see if there are any real performance gains on W8 RTM.
