Hello,

I'm trying to use my wired Xbox 360 controller with my new laptop (which only has USB3 plugs), I plugged in the 360 controller and windows told me: "Device driver software was not successfully installed". I also installed the following drivers but it doesn't do anything.

When I plug in the controller, the 360 sign on the controller lights up for a few seconds and then it stops.

The controller shows up as "Bigben Controller BB7201" in the device manager.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you got the latest USB3 driver? There's an update (Intel USB3.0 Driver V1.0.4.225) on the Asus page you linked to. I'm not really sure what else you can try, but I have a wired 360 controller plugged into a USB3 port and it's working fine.

Yeah, I have tried multiple USB3 drivers. I don't understand why it doesn't work, it's really annoying.

Tried uninstalling the driver through device manager or "uninstall or change a program"?

After that's done, leave the controller unplugged and install the driver pack from the top link. After installed, then plug in controller.

Yeah, just does the same thing. Searches windows update and eventually comes up with "No driver found".

Is this an Official Wired Xbox 360 and not one of these? http://www.bigben-interactive.co.uk/produit/produit/id/194

Because your PC isn't recognising it as an official controller, and those Bigben ones use different drivers. (You could try forcing it to use the official Xbox 360 controller driver, but it might not work at all).

I've seen threads on other sites about Xbox controllers (both official and 3rd party) not working with USB3 ports and I think most, if not all, of the machines having the problem were made by Asus. I've never seen a resolution yet though :(

not to sound like the dumbass commenter but is it possible that the controller itself is faulty and sending the wrong ID or something?

does it work fine on other computers?

Yeah, that was my first idea but no, it works fine on other computers. Thanks though! :)

Try looking at Windows Update, and see if there's an update for the USB3 or Xbox 360 controller.

Tried looking there, nothing there.

It looks exactly like that one, I thought there were the official ones, I had no idea! Are there are no drivers for this controller?

I posted on some, so it could have been my posts you've read :p

Yeah that's definitely not the official Xbox 360 controller. Your computer can see it but can't do anything with it since there is no driver. There may be a driver for it but I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't.

I would recommend just buying an official one, then you know it will work perfectly.

The official controller looks like this: http://www.dealspwn.com/writer/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/microsoft-xbox-360-wireless-controller.jpg :p

As for drivers for the controller you have - I didn't actually see any when I done a quick google search for it, and I can't see them on BigBen's site, sorry! >.< There must be somewhere though because BigBen says it does work with the PC.

if you want to stick with wired, trade that controller in and buy a madcatz controller

it's a great controller for its price and I can confirm that it works perfectly with PC

gamestop usually has them in stock

I've had this one for a while, and it works with USB 2.0 ports. Sucks :(

Yeah, I've been searching but can't find anything either! I emailed their support so hopefully I'll get something back

Don't think I'll be buying anything non-official, I'll go in a second hand store and see if I can find a cheap one. :)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found our solution.

very simple ...

First, download http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/xbox-360-controller-for-windows#support

second, using winrar, right click and extract to Xbox360_xx

Third, connect the control will not install the driver.

Now that is the big secret.

Go to 'Device Manager', right click on the device and click 'update driver' - seek driver software on the computer - Let me pick from a list of device drivers on your computer - search for 'usb human interface device '- is probably already come to the Xbox 360 controller for windows. if it does not click 'have disk' and browse to the path where you extracted the file eg "C: \ Users \ dmsanderson \ Downloads \ Xbox360_32Ptb \ xbox360 \ setup \ files \ driver \ win7"

good luck friend. this was my solution.

never expect anything from microsoft

Sorry poor english. hope you understand

see ya!

    • Sorry but whoever he is, he is right. Microsoft can’t seem to be able to make a decent photo editor or movie editor for Windows. Apple crushes them in that area. If I was Microsoft, I would buy out CapCut and integrate it into Windows so the OS can have a decent movie editor because that garbage editor it comes with it’s just that, garbage.
