quite a few reasons. really bad local network traffic, first thing I would check is duplex mismatch.

Are you moving across a router (vlans?) Is there a firewall between the vlans? Switch is overloaded do to other traffic on the network. is it a dumb switch or smart/managed switch so you can look at such info?

Do you have any lights on the switch just going crazy blinking?

edit: so pings to all ips take that long? To your router/gateway? Or just one IP on your network? Maybe that box is busy?

the only possible things are a overloaded switched and a busy box.

i believe it was a busy box as the problem has been resolved.

thanks as always budman
