Can I clone 2.0 TB External HDD To 3.0 TB Internal HDD ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need to transfer the data from my External USB 2.0 TB HDD ( Seagate ) which is partitioned as MBR to new 3.0 TB Internal HDD ( Western Digital ) which is partitioned as GPT.

I have Acronis True Image software which I regularly use to clone my other hard drives but I have never done this for hard drives that are different sizes as well as different Partition style & different brands.

Is this possible & are there any risks of doing so like HDD Crash, Bad sectors other errors etc ?

Thanks

Do you need to boot off the external drive? Acronis will resize. It should convert your drive to the same thing that the original is. There should really be any risks.

Both are just data drives. No OS on any one of them.

I have a 3rd drive with OS & Clonning software that would do the job of clonning.

Are you saying that the 3.0 TB HDD will become just 2 TB HDD ?

" There should really be any risks. " You mean no risk right ?

Both are just data drives. No OS on any one of them.

No need to "clone" anything, then, just copy the data with whatever you want (Explorer, Teracopy, etc.) and you will be good to go in... well, a bit of time :-P
