Well as you can see in the thread you mentioned in the OP. I like the Eberlestock style backpacks, but I use mine for specialty needs, although you could use the scabbard as a compartment for a laptop.

Agreed, The reason I like the GR's, is because of how sleek and "unofensive" they look, eg: Not like i'm carrying a ak-47 or a bomb just because of the cameo-multi-cam appareance on a day to day use.

Edit: Advancer would you be so kinda as to post a down to earth review on the GR1 when you receive it? Those people on EDC are hard... Either they find it too expensive or the reviews there seem to over the top eg seems GRs marketing team wrote them.

I took my Gunslinger 2 camping no one batted an eye at it. But I have the bag for totally different reasons. Mines mainly for emergencies.

Sure can try, pal :)

Osprey make great stuff :)

Yeah, but nothing that looks as slick as the GRs

Bumpage?

At last, sorry for the huge delay, but things have been passing me by without chance to catch a break and get back to you.

Lo and behold, the beauty arrived: Goruck GR1

46361_10151052713966123_178536444_n.jpg

I haven't been able to take it on as many trips as I would like, due to some nasty flu hitting the whole family, but it has been tested here and there. First of all, it is a great size for my use. The laptop fits in easily in its slot, if I'm biking around town. It sits well on the shoulders and doesn't wiggle around like some rucksacks can do.

The picture is from a weekend trip we had to our cabin. I forget what exactly what I brought, but I didn't have any problems fitting what I needed in there.

I didn't really know what to expect from the materials used, but it is a really sturdy rucksack. Just lifting it up by the handle, you know it is real craftsmanship put into it. And I love the "oversized" zippers - hot damn, they'll never break!

So if you are after a rucksack for everyday use, that also can go hiking, this is highly recommendable. If you should be in the far end of hiking/hunting trips, staying days out in the woods, it might get too small, but for me its perfect!

PS! The wife teases me cause I'm always looking for a chance to go out with my GR1 :p

advancer, pretty neat!!! I pretty much made up my mind in getting one, but a couple of questions.

1. How much can you actually fit in it? eg. laptop + clothes and every day carry or any other combination. Will it fit enough clothes for a weekend hike?

2. How would you compare/rate the material and build quality?

Oh and more photos :p please

Alright, I stuffed the GR1 with items that could be used for going away for the weekend hiking or visiting someone. Most of the items I just grabbed to fill it up (kids are asleep, so couldn't go hunt down all the items I wanted).

Also took some closeups. The quality is excellent and it is really well made. The material is perfect and what you would expect from a Goruck :)

But here it is. The following items I had into the GR1:

  • Rainjacket with pants
  • Pair of gloves
  • Pants
  • T-shirts, socks and underwear
  • Small towel
  • Balaclava
  • Duct tape
  • Small plastic cup
  • Spork
  • M&Ms
  • 2 small cereal boxes
  • Can of baked beans
  • Pocket knife
  • Maglite (3x D-cell)
  • Thermos
  • Pair of Converse
  • Dell XPS 16 inch
  • Toothbrush /paste / deodorant / wet wipes / toilet paper / 4 x AA batteries

    • Yep, not sure where the surprise is here. They release a new model for every phone, every year
    • AI would probably be better utilised replacing Executives than Engineers.
