Nazmus Shakib Khandaker
According to Microsoft's new terms of services, as noted by liveside.net, Windows Live Mail will be rebranded to Windows Mail Desktop and Windows Live Writer will be renamed to Windows Writer. Windows Live Messenger won't be renamed. Perhaps, this is the nail in the coffin for messenger? Who knows! Anyway, here's the quote from MS TOS: "?our online services ? including your Microsoft account and many of our online products and services for consumers, such as Hotmail, SkyDrive, Bing, MSN, Office.com, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Mail Desktop, and Windows Writer." Mr. Dee
Then by next year, they will drop the 'Windows' and just call it Writer, Messenger, Movie Maker, Photo Gallery. I remember Microsoft was pushing the brand deep with Microsoft Office. Every MS Office app had to have 'Office' attached to its name 'Microsoft Office Word 2003, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010. Thankfully the practice ends with 2013. Denis W. Veteran Posted September 3, 2012 Veteran Share Posted September 3, 2012 Could they please make up their minds about branding, or let this be the last change for a few years? Going from Windows Live Mail Desktop (and accompanying web service is "Windows Live Mail") to Windows Live Mail (and accompanying service is "Windows Live Hotmail") to now - Windows Live Desktop (and "Outlook.com") - had a few people getting confused by which name belongs to which product. Denis W. Veteran Posted September 3, 2012 Veteran Share Posted September 3, 2012 I would like Windows Mail Desktop to be called outlook Express, frankly. There has never been a better time to call it that. :p Ah, good point. Could make some sense, given the built-in email client in Windows was that for at least 8 years (Windows 98 to before Vista). But it may be too old of a name to reuse, and this assumes people are conditioned into the Outlook brand - at this point, Hotmail is still stronger in terms of brand recognition. Hey, if they really want to irk the desktop users, why not call it "Windows Mail Classic?" Were posts deleted? Yeah they were, forgot to post a cleaned note. .Neo
Catchy and having two versions of just about every app won't be confusing for the end-user at all of course.
