BT own ALL copper and a fair percentage of fibre cable in the UK, the rest of it belong to Virgin, so even Sky enabled areas involve BT at some stage.

Even so, SKY lease the access to those lines/backbone - BT have no say in how they're used, or have any influence on how Sky use them.

One thing I can't understand...

The government is going to be giving BT (Openreach) a lump sum of money to help roll their fibre broadband out to rural areas, which comes from the tax payer, which BT will then charge line rental on.

So we're going to be paying twice for line rental.

BT are using cheap slow fibre cable as well, I'm pretty sure I read a story about this a few months ago.
