I pre-ordered and received my iPhone 5 yesterday. I jumped the gun, not completely satisfied, but whatever, I'm stuck with it now.

Getting that out of the way, I want to give my GF my old iPhone 4. It is in perfect shape, and was used on the AT&T network.

I obviously want her to pay as little as possible, and since she doesn't have to get a 2 year contract because she now owns the phone, what are my options?

What networks can I go with (Chicago area) if I have the AT&T antenna? I doubt she will need unlimited data, but again, on a month to month plan we can change as needed.

Any advice would be great.

Go to ATT and request to have your old iPhone 4 unlocked:
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/

Then it can be used on any GSM carrier.

If she goes with ATT, a data plan will be mandatory. Since she would be bringing her own device and not getting a subsidized phone, she can go right to a month-to-month service and not have to do a contract.

But there are also other alternatives like Strait Talk, T-Mobile etc etc. My brother uses strait talk and likes it.

I read that Strait Talk blocks a lot of web sites that use Javascript and music streaming.

Any other options? I'd think there would be more info on this on the net.

Get it unlocked, and consider a T-mobile prepaid plan if she doesn't make many calls (e.g. mostly text and data usage). If she does make a lot of calls to non-T-mo users or not during free nights/weekends, she should consider a traditional single line from T-mobile.
