WMP database keeps corrupting.

Question

So I use WMP as a DLNA player and it works great, (none of the other ones work as well, I have tried most!)

The problem is, every week or so, the database becomes corrupted and I have to stop the service, delete the database file and restart the service......(otherwise I can't add new files to the library)

it's a big pain cause the database takes a while to rebuilt and I can't use it until it's done.

What can be causing this recurring issue? everything is updated and I am virus free. Windows 7 pro is being used.

there is a way to remove wmp by the programs and feature and then re-enable it

Yeah I know, you think that will be helpful? I am guessing this won't solve the problem and will take just as long and require a restart. But I will give it a shot since I am all our of ideas.

If the database keeps becoming corrupted, there are a number of potential causes, the most likely of which are:

1: The hard drive you boot with is on it's way out

2: The hard drive your media resides on is on it's way out

3: Some of your media files may be either corrupted or in a format that's causing the indexer to crash

I've never personally had this kind of issue but I'd start with looking at the welfare of your disk drives.

If you're playing from a DLNA server it shouldn't have anything to do with the WMP database as that information is pulled real-time from the server.

WMP is the server and it keeps a database of the files. I know what you mean though, most other DLNA players don't need a database to keep track of stuff but WMP does... I think this is what makes the client side feel faster when the server is WMP instead of others.

    • It use to be a nightmare, with LibreOffice supporting a newer draft ODF standard by default, and Microsoft Office supporting the older non-draft standard. Now that they both support the same version of ODF, they should be interoperable.

With features like HTTPS Everywhere and built-in tracker blocking, Brave keeps your online activities safe from prying eyes. Brave is one of the safest browsers on the market today. It blocks third-party data storage. It protects from browser fingerprinting. And it does all this by default. Speed - Brave is built on Chromium, the same technology that powers Google Chrome, and is optimized for speed, providing a fast and responsive browsing experience. Brave Browser also features Brave Rewards, a system that rewards users with Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) for viewing opt-in ads. This innovative system provides an alternative revenue model for content creators and a way to support the Brave community. SlimBrave Neo takes all the good things about Brave and makes them even better by keeping everything clean, light, and privacy-focused. It removes the extra clutter, turns off features you might not need, and cuts down on anything that could slow you down or collect unnecessary data. Because it relies on simple settings and policies instead of modifying the browser itself, you still get full Brave compatibility—just in a smoother, lighter, and more privacy-friendly package. • Hi. As the title suggests, I can't access the forum on my phone. I'm using Edge on Android and when I try to navigate to the forum I get a "we value your privacy" popup and none of the buttons are clickable. It effectively stonewalls me from reading any forum content.
    • Honestly you're not wrong about AdGuard. Neowin frequently has lifetime license discounts for them and that's how I got my cheap family license a few years ago to run it on all my devices.
