I like clean design and I always been fond of traffic / metro signs, but I think that the Start Screen and live tile are getting tired. It's even ugly. If you compare it to the Bing or most of the OS, it's fall short. Map / Sign: Bing: Lock screen: So, what's that? Start Screen: I'm not a super big fan of the Windows 8 Start Screen design, but it looks little better: So my keyboard pal opened photoshop and tried something that (s)he think could look better. (S)he's not a designer, but... With border: Without border (my favorite): Like I said, (S)he's not a designer, but it kind of follows better the rest of the OS and design philosophy origin that the current start screen.
