Munsters Reboot 'Mockingbird Lane' will air October 26th

Deadline hears that NBC is leaning toward passing on the Mockingbird Lane pilot with the caveat that no final decision has been made yet. Rather than cling to that small glimmer of hope, I will shift my Fuller love to the Hannibal Lecter prequel series Hannibal, which already has a 13-episode order for midseason on NBC.

Mockingbird Lane has been kicking around NBC since the 2010-11 development season. Bryan Singer directed the pilot, led by Jerry O?Connell, Portia de Rossi, and Eddie Izzard. Deadline suggests the hourlong pilot was ?lauded for its visual style,? but never quite came together.

As a Munsters fan, I want to see pictures from the pilot and wouldn't mind seeing the pilot itself... but don't want this on the air.

EDIT: Oh! There is a picture here. That looks dumb... they weren't even "monsters" ... I don't get it.

Good, there is absolutely no way they could ever do it justice. You can't replace the original cast and it would be terrible in color (even the color pilot was bad). The original show was wonderful, it should be left alone. In fact they already did an 80s remake called The Munsters Today...it sucked.

I'm guessing that's why they changed the show's name to Mockingbird Lane.

NBC STIRS UP CREEPY CAULDRON FOR HALLOWEEN WITH A FRIGHT NIGHT FEATURING ONE-HOUR PILOT OF ?MOCKINGBIRD LANE? LEADING INTO HAUNTING EPISODE OF ?GRIMM? ON OCTOBER 26

?MOCKINGBIRD LANE? RISES FROM CREATIVE TEAM OF BRYAN FULLER AND BRYAN SINGER

SPECIAL ?GRIMM? EPISODE ALSO TO AIR ON TELEMUNDO AND mun2

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. ? October 11, 2012 ? As Halloween nears, NBC turns Friday, October 26 into Fright Night when it premieres the pilot of the much-anticipated ?Mockingbird Lane? (8-9 p.m. ET) -- based on executive producer Bryan Fuller?s (?Pushing Daisies,? ?Heroes?) script and directed by executive producer Bryan Singer (?X-Men? film series, ?House?). The special program leads into a haunting ?La Llorona? Halloween episode of ?Grimm? (9-10 p.m. ET), which will also enjoy special airings on NBCUniversal?s Telemundo and mun2.

?Mockingbird Lane? is a new reimagined version of the classic 1960s comedy ?The Munsters,? now as a visually spectacular one-hour drama with a darker edge and tone. The cast includes Jerry O?Connell (?The Defenders?) as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi (?Arrested Development?) as his wife Lily, Eddie Izzard (?United States of Tara,? ?The Riches?) as Grandpa, Mason Cook (?Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D?) as Eddie and Charity Wakefield (?The Raven?) as Marilyn.

?This exciting new take on a memorable series will definitely blow out conventional wisdom and create its own legacy,? said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. ?Teaming this new show with a terrifying episode of ?Grimm? makes the perfect pre-Halloween fright-fest.?

In the original 1964-66 series ?The Munsters,? the odd but lovable family lived on 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

In ?Mockingbird Lane,? sweet little Eddie Munster (Cook) is a normal kid about to enter the horrors of puberty. Truth is, he?s about to discover that for him becoming a teenager means growing hair in truly unexpected places -- as in all over his body -- every time the moon is full! Eddie?s got it pretty good though. His loving, supportive, run-of-the-mill family includes his mom Lily (de Rossi), the daughter of Dracula; his dad Herman (O?Connell), who brings new meaning to ?Frankenstein?; and Grandpa (Izzard), who would give Dracula a run for his money if he weren?t actually Dracula! Of course then there?s creepy cousin Marilyn (Wakefield), who?s really the odd one because she?s so completely normal.

Buying a house these days is a nightmare, so Herman and Lily are shocked that no one scooped up the rambling Victorian mansion at 1313 Mockingbird Lane that was the site of a series of grisly hobo murders. Settling into their new place, they?re quickly onto the mission at hand: to gently ease Eddie into the reality of his werewolf adolescence. But it?s not always so easy to accept that your child is a little ?different? from the rest of the kids. Meanwhile, Herman, who works as a funeral director, is suffering from a heart condition. Since he?s made up mostly of spare parts, he knew his makeshift heart would eventually give out. No worries though, because Grandpa, who is pretty good at procuring body parts, is on the case. All Herman cares about is finding a new heart with the same capacity to love Lily as much as he has for so many decades.

?Mockingbird Lane? is from Bad Hat Harry Productions and Universal Television. Executive producers include Fuller, Singer and Sara Colleton (?Dexter?). Singer also directed the pilot.

wow... I cant even believe this was even considered. That picture must be a joke... Herman is not a frankenstein? Grampa is not a vampire? I forget what the wife's name was... and I think eddie was also a vampire? If I have nothing to do on the 26th Ill watch just to see how much they were able to butcher this "reboot"

It looks great, has a great cast and will certainly be cancelled after 1 season, 2 season tops, like all shows written by Bryan Fuller. He shares the Joss Whedon post-Buffy curse (Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Hannibal). Dead Like Me is one of my favorite shows ever, it's a shame it only last 2 short seasons.

Eddie Izzard looks great as Dracula. The series as a whole is the same concept of The Riches. where he also starred, but replacing crooks with monsters.

yeah I liked the Riches

    • Microsoft Edge gets tons of security features, including AI model that can see your screen by Usama Jawad Microsoft Edge may not be the most popular browser out there, but it does receive quite frequent updates that sometimes bring surprising new features and axe others that are not as popular. Now, Microsoft has detailed some of the new security enhancements that it has introduced in Edge for Business, typically used by commercial customers. Microsoft has emphasized that security features are baked into Edge for Business and offer native integration with security and governance tools like Defender and Purview. Browser sessions are governed by default on managed devices but can also be governed through dedicated work profiles on unmanaged devices. An important aspect in this area is controlling the use of shadow AI. We have talked about this before, but it essentially restricts employees from using unsanctioned AI apps through data loss prevention (DLP) policies, with Edge redirecting them to trusted AI services like Microsoft 365 Copilot. This feature, available as a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) license, ensures that confidential data never exits AI boundaries set by your organization in Purview. Additionally, Microsoft also has strong DLP policies for contractors. Contractors leveraging a Entra ID-joined work profile provisioned by their contracting company on a device managed by their actual employer can be restricted from downloading files locally. In such scenarios, the file is saved on the contracting firm's OneDrive rather than being downloaded locally. Another useful Edge security feature disallows copying and pasting from unmanaged locations and apps. Similarly, DLP policies can be configured at a granular level to restrict screenshots or downloading of files from certain locations. In the same vein, IT admins can block the installation of extensions, hosted apps, themes and scripts, and control if users can install extensions from external locations. They can also enable the installation of specific extensions and allow users to request access to certain extensions, so that they can be managed on a case-by-case basis. Finally, Edge for Business now has an on-device AI model that uses computer vision to see what's on your screen and block potentially malicious content immediately. This does not rely on site reputation, as it simply monitors what is being displayed on your screen, which means that it is effective against malicious content that takes over your screen and employs scareware tactics. Since this is an on-device AI model, it does use your system's resources, so it's enabled by default only on devices with at least 2GB of RAM and four CPU cores. You can find more details in the Microsoft Mechanics video here.

    • Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August. If you missed it a few weeks ago, be sure to check out our coverage of Linux 7.1's release.
