For GAMING, which CPU will give me better performance?
Intel i7-990X
or
Intel i7 3770K

Well the 990 is for socket 1336 and the 3770 is for 1155. I think you choice comes down to which board you are getting.

Either would be good, but the 3770k is my pick. TDP is a lot lower 77w (3770k) vs. 130w (990x).

The real comparison should be the i7 3960x since it is also carries the "Extreme" moniker.

Intel i7-990X is BETTER!! but Intel Xeon E5-2690 @ 2.90GHz is the BEST :p

For servers, yes, for desktops, no. Intel Core i7 3960X is the top in benchmarks. Like I said, the 990x is at par with the 3770k

3770k will clock better ;)
