Another good point to start is seeing how open source php cms projects are written
I don't see the point in learning how to build a php CMS.
There are ones already out there that do an excellent job. If building a CMS is all you're bothered about perhaps using one of those and customising it to your needs is the way to go.
Especially if you already have a grasp of PHP.
That lynda course covers a bit of PHP but if you can build a basic CMS. A lot of that you probably already know. Chapter 12 onwards looks ok though.
Although i personally would go with an already established CMS.
