Can any laptop's optical drive be swapped for a second hard drive?

Can any (well, that has been made in the past year or two) laptop's optical drive be swapped for a second hard drive?

Also, won't it make the case "fit" ugly? (since I presume the hard drive plastic that shows on the side of the laptop is designed to match the laptop.

You forgot to put what brand/model of laptop you have. So I'll have to answer your question with this: Maybe

Ah, I thought it could be any laptop with an optical drive :)

On Amazon, they have tons for my laptop (Vostro 1500). I've seen HDD bays for tray loading drives, not slot loading.
