Hey guys!

I'm looking for some type of device/hardware that allows me to stream almost anything I want to one of my TV's as I'm giving the flip off to cable and its brainwashed crap. I'm looking for something affordable that can stream about anything I put into it and hopefully in at least 720p. I'm not looking at something like purchasing another Xbox, but maybe something like Apple TV that's not Apple TV as I'm tired of its restrictive crap, etc.

Also note I reside in Costa Rica so services like Hulu are unavailable. (Netflix is though)

Any ideas?

I have a popcorn A-110 and it has played anything I have thrown at it. You can stream to it if you want, but its easier to just give it access to your share be it smb/cifs or nfs

There are plenty of options in this area other than apple TV. Prices range from sub 100 to 300+ depending on how fancy you want to get.

Take a look at the popcorn line - I love my little A-110, I use to have a HDD in it so it could run apps and such but pulled it out when when I put together my storage nas. I wasn't really using any of the apps.

I have done 1080p over a wire, I don't use wireless for this sort of thing. But most of my stuff is 720p which never has any issues at all - exp with 1080p is limited. But played without any issues.

Look at intel's atom embedded boards you can get a fanless D2700DC with HDMI (cpu included) for 80$ so all you need is ram drive and a pico psu.

The advantage over the arm devices is you can use whatever software you want.

I have a WD TV Live Hub (1TB HDD) and that plays everything i throw at it easily (including 1080p content) and can stream from your network shares, even generate a library based off of them.

Also it has things like Youtube, Facebook, and other apps.

They're not a bad price either. They do a WD TV Live (no HDD) which has wifi for streaming too.

I agree. Or maybe you could try a rasberrypi with XBMC or just XBMC on a computer or laptop (with the lid closed) . That's what I use. Pare it with a SSD and you are golden!

I have a Raspberry PI and while XBMC is nice to play around with. It just doesn't cut it when you have a WD TV in the house. Although if you're on a real tight budget then a Raspberry PI is an excellent alternative.

With features like HTTPS Everywhere and built-in tracker blocking, Brave keeps your online activities safe from prying eyes. Brave is one of the safest browsers on the market today. It blocks third-party data storage. It protects from browser fingerprinting. And it does all this by default. Speed - Brave is built on Chromium, the same technology that powers Google Chrome, and is optimized for speed, providing a fast and responsive browsing experience. Brave Browser also features Brave Rewards, a system that rewards users with Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) for viewing opt-in ads. This innovative system provides an alternative revenue model for content creators and a way to support the Brave community. SlimBrave Neo takes all the good things about Brave and makes them even better by keeping everything clean, light, and privacy-focused. It removes the extra clutter, turns off features you might not need, and cuts down on anything that could slow you down or collect unnecessary data. Because it relies on simple settings and policies instead of modifying the browser itself, you still get full Brave compatibility—just in a smoother, lighter, and more privacy-friendly package.
