gregb0b
Hey All, I had my alternator replaced at Midas a few months back. Ever since then when I accelerate I hear what is equivalent to a screeching noise, kind of like a wet belt. It only happens sometimes and through the 30mph+ mark. I took it back to Midas and they tightened all of my belts but it still happens. It's rather frustrating so any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your help Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1113593-quick-question-belt-issues/ Share on other sites
Dashel
Tightened the old or replaced them all? There is no reason to ever put old belts back on, if they got em off, change em. sc302 Veteran Posted October 20, 2012 Veteran Share Posted October 20, 2012 Tighten them? Serpentine belts have an auto tensioner. The belt is probably worn or you have a pulley that is stuck or is sticking Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1113593-quick-question-belt-issues/#findComment-595260863 Share on other sites
gregb0b
Hmmm, why couldn't they figure that out at the shop? I'll look into it thanks! The Evil Overlord
My old Volvo had a similar problem, it was an early 90's 9 series, had a mechanical fan behind the radiator, as opposed to the electronic ones we have today, turned out that the fan had some sort of clutch or bearing in it, that was worn and that was making the noise, I'm not saying that this is the fault in your car, but could it be a possibility? (Mine made that screeching sound even when the car was stationary, but only if I revved the engine beyond 3000rpm) Draconian Guppy, TAZMINATOR and LimeMaster 3 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1113593-quick-question-belt-issues/#findComment-595261239 Share on other sites
Dashel
Good point sc. Could be a bearing on the pulley as well. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1113593-quick-question-belt-issues/#findComment-595262023 Share on other sites
