Just put together my new mITX machine and am getting NO signs of life at all. I tried jumping the power switch pins on the mobo and still no joy. I'm reckoning it's either the PSU or the mobo.

Specs:
OCZ corexstream 500w PSU (i know, it's just temporary until i can get a decent one)
intel DH77DF mobo
8gb corsair xms3 ram
i3 3220
6950 2gb

What do I do?

Is the power button pins wired up correctly?

Is the PSU switch turned on?

Kettle lead fuse OK?

and the most obvious one, is it turned on at the wall? Lol.

As you've already mentioned, it sounds like it could be either the PSU or the mobo. Do you have any spare hardware lying around you could test with?

Do you have any other PSU's you could test on the mobo just to rule it out?

I would start by retracing all of the component connections where power is needed...... the power connection to the mobo, (make sure that you have all pins connected, including the 4 pin connection, if needed). Then make sure that the small wires for power, LED, HD, ect. are connected and turned so that the power side (with the small triangle) are placed on the + pole. Then make sure that your power supply switch is on. Look to see if there is a green light on in the mobo. If not then it is probably a bad power supply, or a bad board.

Short the pin 16 (green wire) with ground (any of black wires) of the ATX24 connector. If your PSU powers on, and it most likely will, then Intel motherboards... well, you know... they are that kind of things.

I have a strong feeling your motherboard is not grounded properly...

Try resetting the motherboard, if you screw it in to tight with the case it will not turn on.

Ok, it's the PSU. I just tested with an old 240W one from a prebuilt HP and sure enough it powered up. I guess I'll remove the PSU and see if I can see anything qwrong with it. Othewrwise, time for RMA :/

Thanks for the advice, guys. WIll try shorting the 24pin connector on the psu once i get it out of the case.

tbh i wouldnt usually go for an intel board over an asus, for example, but this time i needed an mITX with a firewire port. Turns out the DH77DF is the only one out there!

Did you remember to plug in the 4 pin CPU power connector from the power supply?

It's a common mistake.
