Deadline reports that Skyfall producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have made a deal with John Logan (the writer responsible for 007's latest outing and critically acclaimed films such as Gladiator and Hugo) to write the next two films in the James Bond franchise. He reportedly pitched a two-movie arc to them during production on Skyfall, and this would thereby make them the first Bond films to feature a connecting storyline. While Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace arguably already did this, it's fair to assume that this will be more of a direct continuation (telling one overarching story). The site go on to speculate that this could mean they'l shoot back-to-back, but it's still very early days at this point.

Other sources state Bond #24 will shoot in 2013 for a 2014 release.

EXCLUSIVE: As buzz builds for the 23rd James Bond film Skyfall, the franchise?s producers have quietly made a deal with John Logan to write not one but two 007 films. I?m told that Logan pitched an original two-movie arc to Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson while they were shooting Skyfall, and that he has already begun writing the scripts. If plans work out, this would be the first Bond film with a storyline to be played out over multiple films, and it certainly makes it feasible that the pictures could be shot back-to-back. (I might be getting ahead of myself here, but anyone named Fleming has to be permitted to froth over James Bond films.) Skyfall opens here November 9, but it is beginning its international rollout this weekend and it is shaping up to be possibly the biggest opening of any film ever in the UK.

Logan has been nominated for three Oscars for co-writing Gladiator, and scripting Hugo and The Aviator. His work also includes Rango, Coriolanus, Sweeney Todd, The Last Samurai and Any Given Sunday, and he won the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critic Circle awards for his play Red. He?s repped by CAA.

      Linux 7.2's first release candidate gets off to a good start by Paul Hill Credit: Larry Ewing It has been a few weeks since the release of Linux 7.1, and in that time, the Linux 7.2 merge window has been open, where developers can submit their features and patches ready for the upcoming release. That window is now shut, and the release candidate phase has begun so that new features can be tested and further fixes applied. According to the founder of Linux, Linus Torvalds, this week’s release candidate looks “reasonably normal”. Although we are super early in the release candidates, this is a good sign as it makes it more likely that an eighth release candidate will not be needed. Torvalds even mentioned that the update’s stats are only larger than they really are because there was another AMD header drop with a third of the patch just being AMD GPU register definitions, which aren’t big changes but make the code contributed look larger overall. In addition to this, he noted that just over half the patch is drivers, even when excluding the AMD register dump. The rest of the changes are spread out over architecture updates, tooling, documentation, and core kernel updates. In the next week, Torvalds says that he will be chilling out, taking the week “mostly off”. Despite this, he will be reading emails and keeping up with things, so if he is slow responding, now you know why. He said he is hoping for a calm week, but we will just have to see if the second release candidate is actually like that. We should expect seven or eight release candidates before Linux 7.2 is released, so expect it around the end of August.
