Since you mentioned hybrid drives, have you looked into SSD's? With Black Friday coming up, you should be able to snag a decent deal on a 128GB/256 GB SSD. Or, if you need capacity, go for hybrid drives. The Seagate Momentus XT lineup is all hybrid drives. If you're in the US, check out Seagate Momentus XT 500GB for $69.99 (the one you mentioned). Hybrid drives are not all that popular, since SSD's are becoming cheaper and cheaper.

If you need a lot of storage space and don't mind the "slower" speed, then yeah that hybrid hdd is a decent choice. If you can do with 128GB (or 256GB if you have the budget), then I suggest you get a SSD so you can utilize the speed.

The Vertex 4, Samsung 830, and Crucial M4 are all good choices for SSDs.

I have 830 on my dedicated server for DB usage and it's screaming fast.

Looking for laptop usage and my 6 yr old one only has one slot for HD, so I guess I will go with Seagate one.

Appreciate everyone's help. Now time to wait for thanksgiving or black Friday deals :)

SSD is a match made in heaven for laptops. If you need the storage space, the Momentus XT is brilliant. I have on in my HTPC, and it is a great single drive solution
