I'm having a bit of an issue with iOS and Windows 2008 r2 PPTP VPN.

I have the VPN setup and I can connect and log in fine.

The only issue I have is that I can't browse to hostnames. For example I can't reach my computer address by type http://mylaptopsname, but I can if I type http://mylaptop.domain.co.uk.

Issue is we want people to access an internal website, the downside is it only works if you use the hostname: EG. http://hostname but I can access it that. Safari doesn't know how to get there. if I stick the domain name on the end of it, it works but the website is hard coded to work only on the hostname without the rest of the domain name.

Is there anyway or any setting on the pptp side of things I need to change? or is it a limitation off iOS VPN?

you need to advertise your domain in your dhcp server.

option is
015 DNS Domain Name in microsoft DHCP server.

next, where does your dns point when on the vpn....the dns servers listed should be your active directory servers, not some internet server someplace.

also that domain name must be the fully qualified domain name not the short netbios domain name.
domain.local not domain

I can't tell what details the phone picks up for the VPN, can only see the IP address it picks up. iOS doesn't provide any other info.
I've set the domain as the FQDN.
Unless I'm looking in the wrong place?

you need to know this at the dhcp server level....
