I want to upgrade the CPU in my netbook.

I have the newer CPU on hand.

I have downloaded and read a repair guide for my model, however some things are not clear in the guide.

You are to replace the thermal pads after putting in the new CPU.

Do you also use thermal paste, as you would in a desktop, or do you just use the thermal pads ?

In the repair guide, I see that there are 2 pads -- one goes above the CPU, another on a copper heatsink arm.

I am planning to use 2 new copper coated pads.

I am fairly new to repairing a netbook/laptop, so I am planning this operation very carefully.

Please, no negative comments, and thank you for anything helpful.

You should not do it. Why? Because.

AMD L110 single core

to

AMD L310 dual core

And yes -- others have done this sort of upgrade.
