I feel like I have to reiterate what others have said as you have not responded if you have taken the suggestions, which are spot on.

It sounds as if you definitely have an infection. Especially reading the reaction you have to hot and cold. I have had a very similar experience with one of my molars. The pain is literally the worst pain I have ever experienced.

So do the hot water with salt.

Another thing to do, is to brush your teeth with baking soda and vinegar. It is a natural mouth disinfectant, and once I discovered it, I swear by it. It IMMEDIATELY helps to ease the pain for me. It truly helps. Here is how to do that.

If you do not have either, if you have hyrdogen peroxide, rinse with a cup filled with half peroxide half water.

Finally, drink hot tea. The heat no doubt helps with the pain. Avoid the cold at all costs. It no doubt makes it worse.

The above tips should help you get through the night until you can see a doctor/dentist. Once you begin taking antibiotics, the pain should clear up pretty quick.

Long story short, why it hurts so much is you get an infection near the tooth area. The infection exists around the nerves of your teeth. The larger and harder the infection gets, the more it is "pinching" your nerves. That is why it hurts so damn much, and it no amount of pain killers can do anything, as they are not fighting the infection. This is why hot and warm liquids really make a big difference. An infection of this kind pretty much is caused by mucus, that is why cold liquids make the infection "harden," while warm liquids loosen the infection, meaning the mucus. So do the hot liquids ASAP, and on top of that, the peroxide or the baking soda/vinegar solution, as both will help to start with the infection itself.

Good luck. As I said, I have been there, and it is the worse.

Either apply a clove of garlic on the affected/infected area, or a warm tea bag on the area of pain.

This is a natural remedy and you will be dreaming in no time. It's also a proven fact; that if you 50/50 mix Bicarbonate of Soda and Water in a glass and using a cottonbud apply it to the affected area, it will draw the infection to a surface and you are able to extract and relieve the pain. A followup appointment will be needed for the doctor to prescribe you some metronidazole or a cocktail of antibiotics. It's recommended you do NOT use cold water.

Let me know how you go with this. :)

You can afford Internet but not NHS dentists? Seems like your priorities are all wrong. I'm guessing you have a TV License too?!

To be fair, UK's internet is FAIRLY cheap compared to another places (I think most part of Europe has this nice thing)

I live at home and my parents pay for it, I don't make a lot of money so sue me. I have to pay for everything else, rent, food, etc etc.

That and I am only working part time now as my hours got cut back.

You're 21... don't you have parents you could ask for help? Or a friend? Surely someone ought to have ?17.50/?48 for you.

I have ?50 I was just worrying about the ?200 costs or maybe more if they find more things wrong. Not my fault, I'm kinda paranoid.

It still annoys me though that if you go to an NHS dentist (what you paying taxes for) you have to pay, I still can't get around this.

My dentist is in some random bungalow which I'm pretty sure we as tax payers have helped at some point. Same as perscriptions, I believe they should be free like in Wales & Scotland, but tbh most of them are in England anyway bahh!

Just like BT being given tax payers money to build a fibre infrastructure in rural locations, and will still charge line rental...

Dan wtf are you smoking. the NHS is billions of pounds in debt (i know its not exactly seen as a debt but its accountability) and you want free dentist treatment to? Dentist isnt seen as a neccessity so of course your going have to pay something for it. Dont like it dont use one simple.

Like the OP's thing he goes to a dentist needs something done it would be a hell of alot cheaper than if it wasnt NHS subsidised and then if he needs to go hospital to fix anything its free. If this was the same in america youd prolly get charged 100's of dollar maybe even going into a $1000.

Should count yaself lucky. Plus never know the antibiotics prescribed to him could be worth ?50, maybe ?100 or maybe 50 pence but still only pay around ?7.50. weve got it good in uk

    • Dbrand thought they could get away with this Steam Machine case, Valve disagreed by David Uzondu Image via Dbrand Dbrand has cancelled its highly anticipated Companion Cube enclosure for the Valve Steam Machine, which it teased back in November of last year with a concept render and sign-up page, because it did not ask Valve for permission first before manufacturing the case. According to Dbrand, it took the "backwards approach" of building the product first before asking for permission from the copyright holder. Seven months of work went into the project, requiring over a thousand engineering hours from the design team. Workers developed forty-four sets of injection molding tools, making a unique mold for each sub-component of the crate. When the Companion Cube went live on Monday last week, it, according to Dbrand, quickly became the second-fastest-selling product in the company's fifteen-year history, racking up orders for hundreds of thousands of units. Customers eagerly bought the $129.95 deluxe edition or the bare-bones $99.95 version, which the manufacturer cheekily branded as the "Poverty Cube". It was around this time that the legal eagles at Valve descended on the accessory maker with a formal demand. The developer pointed out that the iconic block design remains protected intellectual property from the game Portal, so unlicensed sales had to stop. Dbrand said that all its pleas to salvage the project with the Valve team, including proposals to run a properly licensed release under official terms "with their blessing", fell on deaf ears, so it had no choice but to obey and remove every trace of the product from the internet. If you bought the enclosure, the company said that banks will process your refund by the end of this week, but if it still hasn't arrived in your account by then, you should not hesitate to contact support. The Steam Machine itself is a high-performance console that Valve designed directly to bring PC gaming into the living room. It was announced on 12th November 2025 (the same day Dbrand announced the Cube) and runs on the Linux-based SteamOS, the same OS that powers the Steam Deck. As for the price, due to the shortage of memory and storage chips, the hardware cost landed much higher than people were expecting, starting at $1,049 for the 512 model (without a controller) or $1,128 with the new gamepad. The premium 2 TB model pushes those prices even higher, selling at $1,349 for the standalone console and hitting $1,428 if you want the bundle.
    • It's listed #399.99 on Amazon, per your link. It's not $299.99.
    • Wonder how much of this it related to them using something like Mythos. It seems everybody is releasing large numbers of updates in the last few weeks.
