That's right. You have three options when you start the upgrade:
1) Keep your files, settings and installed applications
2) Keep your files (and maybe some settings - I can't remember)
3) Perform a clean install.
This last option removes your Windows 7 installation completely.
OP, you could always stick the DVD in your PC and start the upgrade process to confirm all this. The three options above are available at the start of the process and you can back out without doing any harm to your current installation.
