LED Cluster conversion blue or red

Recommended Posts

Im converting the dash of my 03 Subie to leds. I have tried both red and blue leds. If I go with blue the dials come out a lighter blue because of the green tint behind the plastic. Red show rights through. My needles are painted yellow though and show up yellow with the blue, but red with the red leds. I was curious though, I know red is better on the eyes at night which is why most cars now have them. Does anyone like blue over red clusters? I posted some example pics. I wish I could use white leds, but I would need to sand the green tint off.

It's not that red show up better at night, in fact it's closer to the opposite. Red however preserves your night vision better.

Blue looks cooler and more unique.

I love red at night, its not in your face making your eyes hurt (some blues are bright and cause eye strain at night)... I can't stand white, and blue colors on gauge clusters.... and some shades of blue are actually hard to see at night if you have astigmatism in your eyes like I do... they can "band" / star glare or make halos

I know red is better on the eyes at night which is why most cars now have them.

really? I find it the opposite, the only car I have seen recently with red is Pontiac's... everyone else seems to be going cool white/green, what other car makers use Red right now?

My parents '10 Mazda 3 has red numbers with white needle, Audis use red, BMW uses orange. I already have the red in place, it looks much deeper than the pic above, but Im not set on it. Im thinking of getting the blue leds and trying them. Wondering if anyone else has converted their dash to all blue and like it?

Im going with the red, however its a little too red. Tomorrow I am going to try using some orange stage gels to make it more of an orange ish red. My original plan was to actually sand off the green film behind the cluster as well as change the needles from the yellow color. The yellow needles with red backlighting looks odd, but I have heard the process of taking the needles off is a pain in the rear. I like the look of a red dash with white needles, but thats looking a little harder to to. Now I am thinking of just keeping the entire dash redish orange, but add some blue rings around the edges of each gauge like the Mazda3.

    • Sorry to be that guy but, Given Trump won again even after a failed first term it would appear attacking the other side is how to gain Government in America. Voters when it came down to it didn't give a s**t about those Democratic achievements and voted for Trump over an intelligent, qualified mixed race woman. We need to face up to this uncomfortable reality. There are more Americacan voters who support racism and christian bigotry along with defending and supporting pedophilia, adjudicated rapists, multiple time convicted felons etc than those who don't. Btw, that is how the world sees America now. Not that Trump voters care as they attempt to cocoon themselves in a **** bubble.
    • That's not clickbait. Clickbait is headlines like, "You'll never guess what this person looks like now" for example. For goodness sake, take a look around the internet if you think this is clickbait. How do sites survive if people don't click through to articles? How many people in all honesty would have clicked this if it had your suggested headline? You and those upvoting your post won't be happy until the web is a couple of hundred websites all behind a paywall.

    • Or use Epic games and get full games for free. lol Steam and their demos. Thankfully there’s competition
    • Maybe I missed it, but does this say anywhere that the game save bug has been squashed? I haven't encountered it myself, but it would be nice to know I'm good to go. Anyway, amazingly well done game. Mostly more of the same. ...but when the same is best in class with improved graphics and features, then a win.
