Been wondering lately why most sites have a 3-5 second countdown / delay before starting your download, but you can click the link for if your download does not begin and it begins immediately.

There is probably a valid reason for it, but I can't think what it would be other than keeping you on their site for longer

Any ideas ?

I can think of a few reasons, but I bet the main one is that you get to see an advertisement for a few seconds while you wait for your download. Crafty.

Either this or to keep the servers from being hammered down... which I guess.
