Windows 8 Pro + 2010 MacBook Pro = Non-Working Touchpad?

Recommended Posts

I just got my Windows 8 Pro upgrade today and decided to upgrade my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my 2010 MacBook Pro. The upgrade mostly went ok, minus a few driver issues (display drivers needed to be reinstalled). The first thing I noticed though was that the touchpad did not work at all. After a couple hours searching, I found this site:

The solution offered here does "work", but it's definitely not the desirable fix. Does anyone else have a MacBook Pro with Windows 8 installed with a working touchpad? If so, did you have any issues, and if you did, how did you get them fixed? Overall, Windows 8 runs very well on here, but the touchpad issue is a major problem since I can't have my backup mouse plugged in all the time.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I tried repairing the bootcamp drivers as well, and this did not fix the issue. The screen overlays for the screen brightness and volume don't work either so if anyone has a fix for that, that would also help. Thanks.

Yeah unfortunately this is a known issue, just google it and a whole lot of articles come up saying how it does not work right now.

No trackpad gestures. No two-finger scrolling, no right-clicking. Just dragging and tapping. This makes navigating Windows 8 (and everything in it) laborious and full of suck?the opposite of what it is when working properly. I tried installing some custom drivers I found online and it cranked up my CPU usage so high I thought Mayor Bloomberg was going to declare a state of emergency.

Until Apple releases Boot Camp drivers for Windows 8, you?ll need an external mouse for right-clicking. When the touch aspects of Windows 8 are taken into account, what is needed to make good use of Microsoft?s operating system is a track pad that recognises multi-fingered swipes and gestures. You?re not going to find that at this moment with Apple hardware. Another issue is that Windows can only engage the MacBook?s Nvidia graphics card, not the on-board Intel chipset that OS X will use to extend battery life.

This is why I have held off until Apple hopefully remedies the situation with Bootcamp.

@remixedcat: I'm only running it natively. I haven't had good luck with parallels or vmware in the past.

@Enron: I'm running OS X 10.8.2 at the moment.

@DirtyLarry: Thanks for the links. This is definitely of the suck. Granted, the video card thing was the same for Windows 7 too. You couldn't switch between the Intel iGPU and the nVidia GPU. That only worked in OS X.

At this point I'm almost positive Apple isn't in a rush to get new bootcamp drivers out though, which sucks, because I do like how well Windows 8 runs on my mbp. It runs just as well, if not better, than Windows 7 did.

I got one and everything works except the screen brightness control. I even did one for a friend. No issues or problems, OS X Lion and Windows 8.

I used boot camp to build the driver disk for windows then did the install.

    • OK so SearXNG is a meta search engine that you can install locally or use via a public instance. It scrapes other search engines which you choose and then sorts the results. Not as complicated as multiple relays
    • The only difference here is that you think you came up with these reasons. You didn't. These age old fearmongering lies (that were NEVER true) were funded by and the anger stoked by Putin through proxies like Farage (and later in the USA, Trump) and filtered down through the skinheads, Neonazis, etc. until it reached the uninformed, ignorant, and gullible -- never realizing they were being played for fools against their own best interests. Even now, despite all of the EVIDENCE proving that Brexit was a terrible mistake for ALL citizens of the UK and that its supporters were tricked by Putin's proxies into sabotaging their own nation, you're still here defending these well-known lies as if they were ever true. Not only are they not true. They NEVER were. So, when are you going to realize that you were lied to and actually get angry at the liars and charlatans who lied to you, instead of blaming the innocent people they lied to you about?

    • Ooooh! Two editorial from Paul Hill on the same day! Is it my birthday or something? 😉 Okay, let's see if I get it right. SearXNG develops a meta-search engine app. Individuals install it on their relays. Users connect to these relays to have their own identity-stripping meta-search engine instead of relying on DuckDuckGo. And some of these volunteers have listed their SearXNG instances on SearX.space. That was a lot of wrap my head around. I hope I haven't missed anything.
