From UK but buying a surface pro in US

Recommended Posts

I'm look to by the surface pro when it comes out. My cousin is travelling to the states in January and I've asked her to get me one while she is there as it will save a lot of money I imagine.

The only real worry I have is if something goes wrong will support be an issue? Taking it back tot the retailer is out of the question. Would I need to access support directly from microsoft? Has anyone else had issues when purchasing like this?

Thanks in advance.

Support will be an issue, just like it is for my Zune HD. You would have to ship it to the US for repairs and, possibly, use US support lines.

Are you sure? The Zune was never released internationally which explains why you would have trouble with it whereas the Surface will be available in the UK.

I'd check to see whether Microsoft offer an international warranty for the Surface.

Even if you by it in the US if you get it through MS and not some US only shop like best buy then having it serviced in the UK from MS shouldn't be a problem? I never checked but are the warranties specific to the country you by it in as long as it isn't a product that is limited to that market only?

They can be. Some companies offer international warranties that allow you to send a faulty product in for warranty repairs in your local country regardless of where the product was originally bought. That's not always the case though and it pays to check if you're buying something internationally.

I bought my Zune HD through a retailer called Zune Things so they would handle the warranty for me but if I were to send it for repair myself then I would probably have issues.
