2014 Audi RS6 Avant officially unveiled

Hot on the heels of this afternoon's leak, Audi has officially unveiled the 2014 RS6 Avant.

Described as a "high-performance sports car for everyday use," the model strikes the perfect balance between looking aggressive and elegant. The front fascia is undeniably sporty as it features large air intakes, matte aluminum trim and a honeycomb mesh grille with "quattro" badging. Further back there's a tailgate-mounted spoiler, a gloss black rear diffuser, a dual exhaust system and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The sublime styling carries over to the cabin as it is awash with premium materials and high-end accents. Notable highlights include leather / Alcantara sport seats, carbon fiber trim and metallic accents. There's also a flat-bottomed steering wheel, illuminated sill plates and an MMI navigation plus infotainment system. If that's not impressive enough, the model can be equipped with a head-up display, a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system and internet connectivity.

As expected, the model is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 560 HP (412 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and a quattro all-wheel drive system with a torque vectoring differential. This enables the wagon to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), 280 km/h (174 mph) with the optional Dynamic package and 305 km/h (190 mph) with the optional Dynamic plus package.

To maximize fuel efficiency, the engine features start/stop technology and a cylinder-on-demand system which deactivates four-cylinders when they aren't needed. This enables the model to average 9.8 L/100km (24 mpg US) which is roughly 40 percent better than its predecessor.

To keep things under control, the RS6 has high-performance brakes and a specially-developed adaptive air suspension with a 20mm reduced ride height. The company also offers carbon ceramic brakes and an optional sport suspension that uses steel springs and three-way adjustable shock absorbers for reduced body roll and increased stability.

The RS6 Avant will be launched in the U.K. next summer and pricing is expected to start at approximately ?77,000.

Love it. Would love to own an RS6 some day but the cost of keeping one out of warranty must be mindbending :(

He bought it new and sold it right after having done the first maintenance, because, apparently, those carbon ceramic brakes cost a fortune to replace them. It's a five-digit figure, something around $20,000. ROFL.

This is a supercar in a camouflage.

Yeah but then carbon ceramic brakes are meant to last years and years (possibly the life of the car) without replacement. But even normal non-carbon ceramic brakes for those cost over over $1500+ to replace... as you say, they're super cars with super car running costs - but with a bit of practicality thrown in. A lot of people don't realise that when they take them on!

Yeah, that's the beauty of turbos. You usually see a increase in gas mileage. But, that depends on how you drive it (as with any mpg figure). I have a 500+ hp car, and I stomp on it every time, and it actually gets somewhat close to the gas mileage. On highway trips, I can average 24-28 mpg, which is not bad for a 500+ hp naturally aspirated 6.2L V8.

This car seems kinda slow 0-60. The 2014 E63 4-Matic Sedan (not wagon) is rated 0-60 in 3.4 seconds.

Audi is my favourite car manufacturer but I can't say I like the design of this car. The front looks very aggressive and the length of the car seems a bit excessive. I guess I'm a little biased because I don't like wagons at all (with the exception of the Audi A3).

Yeah, that's the beauty of turbos. You usually see a increase in gas mileage. But, that depends on how you drive it (as with any mpg figure). I have a 500+ hp car, and I stomp on it every time, and it actually gets somewhat close to the gas mileage. On highway trips, I can average 24-28 mpg, which is not bad for a 500+ hp naturally aspirated 6.2L V8.

That's kind of the point of these high performance variants like RS (Audi), AMG (Mercedes Benz), or M (BMW). You will see different body work - whether it's bigger fender flares, use of carbon fiber, etc. I love the look of the front profile, and the rear profile, but not the side profile.

I guess so. I should have mentioned that I like the front and the back too. The newer designs from Audi are top notch.

If you want something more subtle, try the S6. You don't lose too much performance by dropping the R.

I'm sure he meant mph, btw ;)

As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices.       The iFlyTek AINote 2 is among the thinnest E-Ink tablets. It has an EMR stylus, a built-in fingerprint reader, and plenty of built-in AI features. You had me until "and plenty of built-in AI features." That and any company that still does the iProduct naming trope is an immediate pass. It suggests the company isn't very imaginative or creative and is trying to piggyback off another company's success. Extremely lame. Also kind of expensive. Better choices at lower prices out there.
