On my new Mac Mini, I want to keep my system strictly organized, so I have 4 different partitions.

1 for the OS and programs, 1 for the "Media" (iTunes specifically), 1 and for folders and software installs, and 1 for Time Machine, which I call that just "Backup".

I was just wondering, what could I name the folder and software installs partition? It'll also basically contain documents, psd's, themes, and more.

I hope this doesn't sound too silly. :)

I used to have 3 drives, called Snap, Crackle and Pop. I added two more drives recently, and called them Ren & Stimpy. Naming drives isn't silly, honest :p

What are your other partitions called?

Haha, I never had the chance to name the main since i never reinstalled OS X. :p

The next one is "Media" which will be iTune's.

The next one is the one I need an idea for as far as documents, psd's, and software installs.

And the last one is just "Backup" for Time Machine.

Data I
Data II
Games

I would name it that if I only had PDF's and noted documents, but since I also have WordPress themes, PHP Projects, and Software Installs such as Adobe CS6.. :/

"so I have 4 different partitions."

And why could it just not be 1 partition with different folder names. There is some validity in splitting your OS from your data, but for the life of me can not understand why you would need to restrict yourself to different partitions to split up your data.

All I can see it doing is causing pain when you miscalculated your % of your total size that would be used for the different data types.

So what do you do when your media partition becomes FULL, and your backup part is empty or only half full?

I really just don't see why anyone would want to restrict themselves this way.

As to your names - just use porn star names, or different types of beer, or ship types in star trek, etc. Its a place holder - there is nothing saying it has to have association to what there. I like to use Trappist Beer Abby Names, or Brands of Bourbon, etc.
