HTC Windows Phone 8S thoughts

Recommended Posts

Hey. I'm planning on getting a new phone, and this phone looks decent, and fits within my budget. I'm just after people's thoughts about the device, pros, cons, etc. The 8X is out of the question. Are there any other Windows Phones which are about the same price(ish) that are worth considering?

Ideally I want to know what it would be like playing a game or using apps on it for example, just for performance and what it would be like to have every day.

Now, this is the reason I haven't put this in the Windows Phone section...

Is a Windows Phone worth it, or is the only alternative for someone who can't afford an iPhone? I know there's plenty of Andriod phones, but the only decent ones by the looks of it are out of my price range, or are there any that I've missed that are about the same price as the HTC? Is Andriod worth it?

Thanks.

An extra thought; I have an iPod Touch 2nd Generation which is my current 'smart' device. I want this phone to replace this, so I'm wondering about performance. The HTC 8S has 1 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, whereas my iPod has a 0.5GHz processor and 128MB of RAM. Clearly the phone can out-perform the iPod, but will things be that noticeable? Is the GPU good enough to play games such as Angry Birds, etc?

I purchased this phone last night. Syncing contacts was a headache. I made a csv, imported it to hotmail, synced but only the contacts would show up & not their phone numbers. After trying twice to sync with Hotmail, I finally synced my GMail and contacts with phone #s showed up.

I recommend you save your contacts to SIM card, if you want quick access. I don't know why they didn't just let you import a vcf file via the sd-card, so retarded.

The OS is fluid and looks nice. 8S looks slick and is slim. The screen is nice, at least for me, since I used to use a wildfire. 512mb RAM isn't sufficient, as I installed a small game called Air Hockey and it lagged during multiplayer.

Get the blue color, it looks elegant. Oh and unlike android, there is no quick access to turning on the internet, so you have to go to settings, mobile network and then turn on Data, which takes ages.

    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for seven more games as discounts continue by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe There's a brand-new update rolling out to Nvidia's GeForce NOW streaming service, and like every week, that means more games have received support on the platform. This week's drop has additions like Aphelion and Pro Cycling Manager 26 attached to it. Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active too. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Moreover, Nvidia reiterated that support for GOG single sign-in and game library is incoming this summer, joining stores like Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, and Xbox. "Connect supported game store accounts and stream titles with GeForce RTX power. Games that include cloud-save functionality help keep progress intact across devices," added the company. "Start a game on one screen, pick up where playtime left off on another, and spend less time managing installs and storage space." Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Embers of the Uncrowned Demo (New release on Steam, available 13) Pro Cycling Manager 26 (New release on Steam, available June 15) Aphelion (Steam) Citizen Sleeper (Epic Game Store, Free from June 18-25) Megastore Simulator (Steam) OPERATOR (Steam) Super Meat Boy 3D (Xbox, available on Game Pass) Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month, with extra time being purchasable in chunks.
    • 47% profit margin? Wtf!! I know companies are in business to make money but come on man. I know for a fact I'll never own one of these.
