remixedcat
I have been working with someone from vmware on this and would like your input on this as well as a few tests: http://communities.v...tart=0&tstart=0 Please click on the thread above for more details. *RedBull* 1 Share
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted December 17, 2012 Subscriber² Share Posted December 17, 2012 Yo dawg, I heard you want to run a VM hypervisor in a virtual environment... Seriously, what's the point of the exercise other than 'because I can'? Japlabot and Xahid 2 Share
Arkos Reed
just like HP does with storage in their EVAs, virtualize the abstraction layer to double the flexibility and security Usually it's done the other way around, ESX hosting an HyperV, Xen or ESXi host, because it's much more stable

c.grz
Yep, we have ESXi on an old PowerEdge that has several virtual ESXi hosts plus a virtual SAN running openfiler and a vCenter appliance. It's really neat; let us play and try different settings all running in one physical server.

Raa
If it means I can do "fakeraid" via Hyper-V to provide "raid" on ESXi, i'd be okay with this actually... remixedcat 1 Share

DrCheese
Yo dawg, I heard you want to run a VM hypervisor in a virtual environment... Seriously, what's the point of the exercise other than 'because I can'? You do it to test/learn an entire virtual environment, i.e a number of hosts and shared storage. It means you don't have to get a number of real physical servers to learn this stuff on. You wouldn't use it in production :p remixedcat 1 Share
MrPc
remixedcat It looks like you got past the issue of a x64 bit app as a guest of a nested esxi within Hyper V?....what was the final configuration that made it work? I seem to be stuck at only being able to run x32 bit guests within the nested ESXI within HyperV. Any help on this would be great Thanks
