Wireless Charging

Recommended Posts

Ever since I first seen this start to come out I have wanted one. The problem is it's always only for popular phones (iphone etc).

Now I have searched and have seen many companies do this type of thing. One company that might be able to support my phone (and future phones) is the Electrohub.

Though I can't seem to find anywhere with full details, or a place to purchase.

Wondering what your guys suggestions are for these devices, options...I have a HTC One S at the moment.

If you are brave, you can do it yourself for around ?15. I modded my Lumia 800 to have wireless charging.

If you have to pop your phone into a case before placing it on a charging platform/mat, to me that would be more of a hassle than just plugging it into the charger. I suppose you could always keep the case on, but that's not something that I personally would want.

Even with Nokia's solution on the Lumia 920 (i.e. no separate case needed) for example, I just don't think that it's a lot different to putting your phone on a dock; I can be slightly less careful with the positioning and it's "cool" (in a geeky way). I suppose when it becomes more popular and available almost everywhere that you go, then it could be very convenient. That's not the situation currently though.

Also the iPhone doesn't really have a proper wireless charging solution, unless you shove it into those 3rd party cases that I mentioned previously.

Sorry for raining on your parade though.

Maybe you should watch the video

I was giving my opinion on wireless charging, in response to the OP asking: "Wondering what your guys suggestions are for these devices, options...".

However, perhaps you should watch that video yourself and then read that sentence of mine that you quoted. If I consider inserting a phone into a case in order to enable wireless charging to be a hassle, then you can hazard a guess as to what my opinion would be on modifying a phone as per that YouTube video. For me, there's just not enough benefit to warrant that much hassle.

Yes if my phone could get a case that enabled the feature, I would most likely leave it on at all times, then it's quite easy, and easier then plugging in and unplugging.

But the reason wireless charging is nice, is because it's wireless, not because it's easier.

What you may find a to be a "hassle", I see as an enjoyable challenge. But each to their own (Y)

iPhone and android have wireless charging?

Android certainly does yes. However, I really don't see why people bother. It's slow, due to the much lower current, and there's a fair bit of electrical "wastage" endemic to wireless charging... You might as well just set fire to your money as use wireless charging.

Really, is it THAT hard to plug a wire in? :p

    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2 to finally get one of the most requested features by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft officially confirmed Windows 11 version 26H2 with the latest build, 26300.8697, for testing in the experimental Insider channel. The company also published more details about it mainly directed towards IT admins and system admins. Essentially version 26H2 will be delivered via an enablement package (eKB) over Windows 11 25H2. If you are wondering about some of the upcoming features in the next Windows version, one of them is certainly very interesting as Microsoft has confirmed it is finally bringing one of the most overwhelmingly requested features ever. March Rogers, the Partner Director of Design at Microsoft, recently highlighted some of the Search improvements that the company is testing, and during the interaction with users on X where he posted it, Rogers also confirmed that the company is working on disabling web search results inside Search. This is something which many users find quite annoying as Windows would often serve them links to Bing which it feels could be more helpful rather than bringing up the actual object or app the user may be searching for on their PC. Finally though the company is prioritizing local file search over the web. However the feature could not be disabled for many users as not all new features are immediately rolled out to everyone. Image via phantomofearth (X) Windows enthusiast phantomofearth who likes to dig deep into new builds uncovered the IDs you will need to enable these features. Using the following feature IDs the new Search-related features landing in Windows 11 26H2 can be used. Follow the steps below to enable the new Search experience on Windows 11 build 26300.8697: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id: and press Enter. Restart your computer. If you change your mind and want to restore, repeat the steps above and replace /enable with /disable in the commands on steps 5 and 6. Delightedly and perhaps also expectedly, once you disable web search and other such bloat, the Windows 11 Search is said to get snappier as remarked by another Windows enthusiast Xeno.
