Im sorry to hear about your debacle...
1. Hopefully you have that tech's name and company him/her works for so you could report them for this
2. Have you tried changing product keys?
a. go to my computer
b. scroll down to where it mentions windows Is not activated and/or not genuine.
c. follow prompts to change product key
This should do the trick, once you change the key, windows should pulverize windows media center as it is not a feature in your genuine product key
