MSE it's light on resources and good on stopping/cleaning crap there are better paid anti virus programs but for free you can't go past MSE

I'm surprised MSE leads by such a margin considering the thrashing it received a month or so ago.

Why didn't you mention Unthreat? It's my favorite, that's why I voted for Other. It's free and easy to use and from my experience it's better than many of the above..

While that's certainly one of the safest approaches, the latter can make the process of user interaction quite displeasing, especially in some usage scenarios.

OT: I ditched MSE for NOD32, but if I was to 'go free' again I'd certainly use MSE.

i don't see how people can recommend MSE when it failed the certification test twice in a row http://www.ibtimes.c...rosoft-disputes

My ISP, Cox, offers the McAfee Security Suite as a free download. I've always been happy with MSE, but the loss of features in Defender for Windows 8, plus the poor rating it was given by AV-Test have made me want to try other options. I'm going to try McAfee out and see what it's like.

because it's been proven that that test is unrealistic, i think there's even an article about it on neowin's front page
