Should I go with Win 8 or wait for Blue ("8.1")?

Bull....Don't listen to guys like these...Win * is better than Win7 in everyway...

Except the whole UI part of it.. which is how you interact with and use the OS.. but I mean.. yea no. not important right?

The best thing is to give it a try. I installed the Enterprise version on my win7 Tablet to try and the touch experience was OK, and thought that I wouldn't dare to use it on my laptop. But then I decided to install the Pro on my laptop and I like it. Honestly, touch isn't necessary with win8 unless you think so.

Have to be a little dense to not just be able to stick in desktop mode the whole time. I was running the CP and RP on a netbook with 1024x576 resolution - there was no way to use Metro at all. It worked beautifully. If you don't like Metro, don't use it. Windows 8 is still an improvement over Windows 7.

Hi Migo,

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. Here's the deal though. I don't give a **** what your experience in Windows 8 was. Just because you liked it, doesn't mean my opinion is automatically going to change to me liking it. It really is that simple.

I have it, and I ****ing hate it. This no use Metro bull**** is exactly that. Anyone who says you don't need to use it is talking through the hole in their ass. Metro is the biggest part of the OS.

Aside from the what-is-quickly-becoming-tiring debate over Windows 8 vs 7, +warwagon, I was under the impression that it was only the Media Center Pack that had to be activated by Jan 31. Do you have a link with further documentation concerning having to activate Windows 8 by Jan 31? I have 4 unused keys I may or may not use.

Thanks.

No, it's not. You don't need to use it. That's a fact. If you can't agree with that, it's because you're mentally deficient. Period.

True. You can completely ignore metro in Windows 8, even without anything like Start8. You might encounter the start screen, but that's ok. The start screen works very very well with keyboard and mouse. It's some of the metro apps themselves that don't necessarily work well with keyboard and mouse... and they are completely avoidable.

The only metro you will really necessarily encounter in Windows 8 is the start screen, and it's well designed for keyboard and mouse. Ignore the apps, if you must.

You know that you can still pay for and download the $40 upgrade before January 31st and wait to install it. If you're running Xp or Vista this should be a no brainer. I am still easing myself into Windows 8 and find myself dual booting between 7 & 8. If I boot into 8 in the morning I find that I end up using it all day.

Once you get the hang of how Metro works with a keyboard and mouse, it really isn't that big a deal. Of course it's not the best way to interact with Metro apps, but hardly the atrocity it's being made out to be.

I personally brought an upgrade. Although I still dislike a lot of the design decisions made with 8, you can resolve the butt ugly theme and lack of start menu with third party solutions. I haven't migrated from 7 yet as I'm still not convinced they have completely ironed all of the bugs out but in my opinion it's worth getting whilst the upgrade is still really cheap, as they will iron the bugs out eventually.

I personally purchased the upgrade due to the price.. Installed the upgrade and didn't like it... For a tablet I think it would be excellent, for desktop I prefer Win7 Ultimate... More down to preference I think... Depends on your opinion of Metro

    • Simple answer is yes, you will still get the Windows updates and as long as browser is up to date, you will be good. Only thing secure boot does is protect you against boot level threats and make it harder to install other OS's. I've been looking into this pretty thoroughly lately myself as wifes computer has secure boot disabled plus my other, older computers that run Linux, don't have secure boot enabled. Have seen all kinds of questions about this on the Linux Mint and MX Linux forums. Just don't suddenly enable secure boot now.
