Does anyone get this? When you create or modify a folder it comes up with the message "Could not find item this item" then when you click Try Again it works like it should :s It only seems to do this on the desktop

Never happened to me, what are your exact steps to reproduce the issue?

Haven't seen it before. What are the permissions of the Desktop folder?

Had this is Windows 7 occasionally, can't remember what the solution was. Could possibly be your hard drive failing or bad sectors? Or perhaps your disk is getting full? Do you have full rights?

Creating a folder on the desktop brings up this error every time It also does it if you rename an existing folder on the desktop

I have a similar problem with a folder I created not so long ago, but not on the desktop, but on an external Drive. I tried deleting the folder, but it won't go away. Even though the folder is blank (NO HIDDEN CONTENT), it won't be deleted. I even try taking ownership to no avail.

I think the fastest way to solve this is either booting to linux (which I'm very lazy to try this out) and deleting the folder from there, or formatting the drive.

I am puzzled at if this is a "genuine" Windows warning message.

"Could not find this item (no full stop)" and "THIS is no longer located" - how can that get past Microsoft's quality checks?

BTW, I think you need to refresh the desktop. Press F5. This usually happens when the OS does not auto-refresh itself.

Not sure if it's related but sometimes finished downloads in Firefox fail to write the file to the Desktop in Windows 7, something about not having permission to write or similar. Second attempt it works fine.

use RD /S in cmd by running it as admin. I had the same problem and this fixed.

here's in detail:

1. Open command prompt (CMD) as admin. (Run it as admin)
2. Go to the Dir where that folder is located which you wanna delete. ( I hope ya all know how to do this... [cd c:] [cd users] [cd user name] [cd desktop] etc. )
3. Once you are in that dir, which contains that folder. Type :

RD /S Folder Name
and upon confirmation, press Y and press enter

that's it

Just create a batch file (.bat) , with cmd command, it goes directly to the folder where you put the batch file.

OK so it seems after performing a chkdsk and a restart it seems to have sorted it :)
