AT&T Is Very Disrespectful To Its Customers

Recommended Posts

OK I just got a text message from AT&T that reads:

"Your phone is now enabled to roam and dial internationally. Details and rates at att.com/global"

1. I do not travel internationally

2. I live in Florida

So I called AT&T to find out why that feature has been activated in my account without my permission because I certainly did not do it or authorized anyone to activate it.

The rep told me that "the system does this automatically just in case you travel to another country or roam."

I then told her that even though its not her fault, I think it is VERY disrespectful of AT&T to add features or services to a customer's account without the customer's authorization. I was fuming. This is totally wrong and uncalled for. Who the hell do they think they are to activate services on customer's accounts without asking them first?

Not good.

Is the service free if you don't roam? I mean.. if so.. is your life really that boring that you get angry that a free service when not used (that you don't plan to use anyways) is enabled. If not, then that sucks.. however I don't see how it's disrespectful. I mean when all is said and done you are paying for a service, you don't actually OWN any part of it.

The service is NOT free. If for some stupid reason your phone decides to roam, you will get charged.

You don't get it. I did not order that service and it is not part of my package therefore it is very disrespectful of them to add it to my package or account without consulting with me first, free or not, it is wrong.

The ability to roam internationally, is free. If you don't travel abroad, I don't know what the fuss is about. Is there truly nothing better to do with your time, other than call AT&T to complain over a free service? I have it in my account, it was put on when I activated my iPhone 5. It costs me $0.00 to maintain, and may one day become useful when I travel abroad and need to make an emergency call.

Millions die a year of hunger and poverty, and in America, this is a struggle. No wonder the entire world looks at us like we're ****...

Most phones have the ability to "Turn off roaming". I guess I don't see the disrespect. They aren't being rude to you, they aren't forcing you to have it, they aren't harassing you.

Well then, if you don't travel, what do you have to worry about?

People seem to like to complain about stuff that doesn't even affect them. Sheesh.

I can only imagine how upset and disrespected people felt when at&t rolled out LTE for the iphone

"Oh my god, how disrespectful of them to have me switch towers/signal/speed without consulting me first,...

who do they think they are by having my phone automatically do this draining my battery faster with this whole process"

:D

and dont get me started with cable companies

"Oh dear ******* !!! did -insert cable/satellite company name here- just add extra channels to my package

without consulting me first... how dare they add channels that i'll never watch nor get charged for but will cause my channel surfing time to increase between fox news and cnn"

Where's that 911 number when you need it huh ?

All carriers do this. I was on Sprint for the last 3 years and they would text me with notifications about free services all the time.

Similarly, Capital One keeps telling me I'm a great customer and they keep upping my credit limit without my consent. The nerve!

Whatever. I still think its very disrespectful of them to add stuff to customer's account without their permission. You people obviously like being screwed by AT&T and their clever ways of adding services to your accounts to later have an excuse to over charge you on your phone bill if necessary.

That is your choice. Not mine.

That is totally different.

If I recall correctly, having worked wireless most of my life, that service is usually added in automatically on accounts that are in 1. Good standing, or 2. Not requiring a deposit.

I still don't get how this is a "clever" tactic. It's International roaming. If you don't travel outside of the US, what is the fuss? And even if you did, as long as you don't use your phone, you are fine. No harm, no foul. If anything, it may come in handy. A lot of people travel abroad with their devices, thinking it will just work, and then when they need to make an emergency call, they are faced with the harsh reality. It's one of those "Just in case" services, that doesn't cost a cent to have.

And like I said, I am pretty sure it is standard practice to add this to accounts with good credit.

God I hate it when wireless carriers add new features to my account, and don't charge me for them. ****es me off to no end! The other day Verizon notified me that I am eligible for an early upgrade on my phone, and I called the representative FUMING that I now had this option that I didn't have before and I may at some point find useful even though I have no need to actually take advantage of the offer. How dare they allow me to upgrade my phone without permission?!?

If you are not being charged...whats the fuss about. The fact that you called att and claimed to have fumed at them to me is the most disrespectful part of it. Have you worked customer service before, do you know whats its like dealing with irate customers, its not pleasant, nor will it get you far. Next time if this happens I would just politely ask if you one are or are not being charged, and how come you were not asked about the service.

I know what you mean. My carrier offers me discounts for cinema tickets, gigs, clothes and food all the time. I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS.

    • I like Tidal, but it still does not control devices from the mobile/app and still no surround support. And yeah re: above comment I still get a lot of network errors and I am on a 4/4 Gbit Fiber connection.
    • Aren`t "security features" and "AI model that can see your screen" a tad diametric!
    • Samsung, Amazon extend 990 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD deal beyond Prime Day 2026 by Sayan Sen Recently, we had Amazon's Prime Day 2026 sales wherein there were several great deals including on SSDs. One of those discounted components was the Samsung 990 PRO SSD as the 2TB variant of it was selling for $370, a very good price after a long time. Although that deal was supposed to expire today, Amazon has now extended that sale further (purchase link under the specs table down below). The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $400. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more. The technical specs of the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB are given in the table below: Specification Value Form Factor M.2 2280 Interface PCIe Gen 4.0 x4, NVMe 2.0 NAND Flash Samsung V-NAND TLC Controller Samsung In-house Controller Cache Memory Samsung 2GB Low Power DDR4 SDRAM Sequential Read Speed Up to 7,450 MB/s Sequential Write Speed Up to 6,900 MB/s Random Read (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,400,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD32) Up to 1,550,000 IOPS Random Read (4KB, QD1) Up to 22,000 IOPS Random Write (4KB, QD1) Up to 80,000 IOPS Operating Temperature 0°C to 70°C Reliability (MTBF) 1.5 Million Hours Endurance 1,200 TBW (Total Bytes Written) Get it at the link below: Samsung 990 PRO SSD 2TB NVMe SSD (MZ-V9P2T0B/AM): $369.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
