I wanted to get a PSP Vita for my step-son on Christmas soooo bad. We ended up getting him an iPod Touch. The iPod Touch was cheaper and had more of the "web flash game port" style games that a 10 year old is interested in. He can also use his allowance to go buy a $15 iTunes gift card and with that buy enough games to last him a month. With the PSP Vita he would have to save up for a single game that he may or may not like. Also, the PSP Vita didn't have Minecraft.

I wanted the PSP Vita though. I already have iOS stuff and I wanted to play with a PSP Vita damn it! Oh well.

I don't realy see phones as taking over in gaming... The controls are still just too akward and the games themselves just , at least for me, don't do it. Sure, I have plenty of games and roms on my phone, but I never really play them.

I don't think phones are really hurting it, its just that mobile gaming for us older folks, in which the Vita at least seems to be targeting, just don't mobile game as much, or see it as a priority to get such an expensive item.

Better in what way? Not a phone on the market has a screen to match the OLED on the vita or the graphics it can produce. I have yet to find a game on a mobile device that plays as well as something on my 3DS or Vita.

There are 5" phones with 1280x720 and 1920x1080 now. Graphics wise the upcoming tegra 4 and powervr 6 series will destroy this gpu. The only advantage of this over phones is that the screen is OLED and there are physical controls.

Mobile gaming is really for kids.

What makes you say that? You don't have to actually be MOBILE to enjoy portable games. For instance, I play my 3DS in my own home, or sitting outside, or on vacation. And I'm 28.

Lack of good software and a high price are what's really killing the Vita.

Definately the only thing holding it back is the games.

The Vita itself ia a awesome machine, it has the specs to play the best games, but so far, only 3 come to mind for it.

Uncharted

Gravity Rush

Assassins Creed Liberation

The rest are very very bland in my opinion.

Statistics say that. Also what doesn't help the Vita is that most of the games for it are also available to the PS3. Most wont plonk down $300 bucks for another system when they can just play it on a bigger screen on the ps3. There are a few that are Vita only, but they don't have enough clout or umph to make the Vita seem like a worthwhile purchase.

I got a PSP, but it just sits in the restroom :p Most people go outside to escape the inside entertainment. While you might do what you do, many others don't. And statistics show that more kids own/use 3DS and DS. While the Vita is targeted to a crowd that isn't as adamant on mobile gaming.

Because the PSP flopped over many years, it will take a lot of work or time to recover from that. The Nintendo DS does so well because it built a reputation for it's self.

right - the PSP flopped

lets face it - it's not cell phones that are hurting the Vita, it's the price

People don't understand the definition of flop. They think if a competitor sells more, then that makes a device flop.

It's like arguing because the iphone outsells the galaxy (or vice versa? whatever) that the galaxy is a flop. Go tell Samsung their product is a flop.

    • I'm still rocking iOS 25.x on my primary phone cuz iOS 26 still has usability quirks (mostly aesthetic and thus its UX) which I don't wanna deal with -- and I've been piloting them with all of these updates on my backup phone, so I'm well aware of its "improvements" since iOS 26 was first released (compared to version 26.5.x).
