Unable to click links in Google Chrome.

Question

I have stable version 23.0.1271.97 m and updated to Version 24.0.1312.52 m and the problem still persists.

I had installed a FRESH copy of Windows 7 on a laptop with a fresh install of chrome. No plugins no nothing.

Then to double check I went to my desktop with Windows 8 and same thing. I was surprised.

Is this a chrome bug? In chrome on this site I can't uncheck Free! McAfee Security Scan... option OR the Download now button. It does nothing.

Two different computers, one fresh setup and one long standing computer doing the same thing.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Also happens in http://beta.skype.com/en/ try clicking on the top links and you'll see.

Sounds like an issue with your mouse. Make sure you have the latest driver for it.

First of all I installed the touchpad driver from dell for the laptop that had a FRESH Windows 7 install.

Second Windows 8 automatically installs the driver for my Microsoft mouse on my desktop.

Yeah, drivers aren't the issue.

Did you even bother opening Chrome and trying it out yourself? This happened on two different computers and one happens to be a fresh install.

Works fine for me, buy a mac.

Wow really? Not only did you not tell me what browser you used to determine if it's Chrome's fault but for me It works fine on Internet Explorer and you're telling me to buy a mac just to download free software? Hilarious.

I'm just trying to see if anyone else is experiencing this problem with Chrome.

Found out what it was, I had edited the host file to block some ad domains (which is why it didn't happen on several other sites). Weird thing is that Chrome didn't bother to connect me to the localhost loopback it just didn't let me click on anything.

Now Kalint, thanks for your time to answer but don't waste other peoples time with useless statements like "get a mac". This would have happened on the Mac or linux too if I had edited the hosts file just like I did with my Windows OS.

Well at now people will be able to google and find this answer :D

Yes, I was using Chrome Dev, but no way its a Chrome issue, otherwise the problem would have been all over the web if people couldn't click links from Chrome. Glad its sorted.

    • Cheap labour, the same as the U.K. China pays their people pittance.
    • Those people that come over here on boats are already in a safe country, if they want to come over here then do so correctly though the right channels. I was born in the U.K, my family that came over here came so via the proper means. My partner came here via the correct channels, she also became a British citizen, she knows more about this country than most of them that was born here, including myself, she worked hard to do what she does. She will stick up for this country and have done a few times, when people from her own part of world have put the U.K down. We are not going to agree, all I said to start with is that maybe Trump has the right idea with this America first thing and maybe we should start doing the same. Maybe not as drastic as what he is doing, but we do need to sort this country out, we need to sort out tech instead of relying on the U.S and others. Again you have not shown why you are so annoyed that we have left the E.U and this is what it is all about? If you don't live in the U.K and live in the E.U are you annoyed that we left your little club? If you live in the U.K and is pro-E.U, then fair enough then I can see how it annoys you. Are you one of these people who lives in the U.K and have a holiday chalet in the E.U and can now only stay there for so long? If so, then that is bad luck. As I have posted before, I have no problem with people coming here to work, as long as they do if via the proper channels. We are out of the E.U, people voted out, and maybe if more people had voted instead of sitting on their backsides the results would have been different. But they like the E.U and our government thought no we would not vote to leave. How wrong they were, surprised me. I expected to wake up in the morning and hear on the radio that we voted to stay. As I said, we are out and have been for 10 years, we are not going to go back in anytime soon if we ever do, so we all need to make the best of how things are. Anyway, this is supposed to be a tech site.
