I am puzzled by a problem that could be the monitor, the on-board video or something else:

Lenovo ThinkCentre Desktop (8212)
Samsung 930B Monitor and Windows XP

On turning on the monitor and computer, the Windows startup sound can be heard, fans work, hard drive works, no beeps; but the monitor remains dark with a blinking green light.

My first thought was that the monitor had a hardware problem.
I did a search and no video plus blinking green light seems to mean "unable to get out of sleep mode due to power supply failure".

I disconnected the monitor from the computer (video cable) and turned both devices on.
The computer booted up without errors and got the Windows startup sound and no beeps.
The monitor started up and at least it showed the "no signal" image moving around on the screen and a steady green light.
However, the moment the monitor was connected to the video port on the computer, the screen went black and the light back to a blinking green light.

I'm guessing the monitor needs replacing, or the on-board video is dead, but not certain of either.
The user is going to test the monitor with anothe computer tomorrow and the computer with another monitor to see if anything shows up.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
If the on-board video is dead, will using a video card by-pass the on-board video?

if it was the on-board video at fault the monitor most likely wouldn't even detect that it was connected to the computer let alone go from no signal to the blinking light again as soon as you connected it

so my guess it that it's the monitor at fault

I don't think using a video card on the pc bypasses the video board on the monitor, tho I could be wrong, most of the time with samsung monitors there's 3 capacitors that become bloated and they need replacing, if the monitor has a removable video cable, I'd suggest trying a different cable before you try to open up the monitor.

Replace the cheapest part first, the monitor cable, then go for the next cheapest

I'll have the user test the monitor with another computer to confirm it, and then I guess it's time for a new display.

Are you seeing post/bios at all? It doesn't sound like it

Samsung's monitor issue will cause the monitor to turn off after x amount of time or just not turn on period, not really a signal issue like that (although I'm sure it's possible).

If you see post, check the resolution in the F8 startup options
