My hard drives are getting full and I blew my budget on my upgrade so a new one is out of the question...For now. I'm looking for something to backup photos, documents, music and game saves. I have play music right now which is fine and dandy I suppose. I also have a Google + account and Picasa but I don't want a social networking aspect to it. So far Skydrive and Google Drive seem like the best options based on reviews. Sugarsync and Dropbox seem well enough but a little spendy compared to the aforementioned two. I'm pretty ignorant to cloud storage services aside from knowing your files are stored and you can access them remotely. As long as I can re-download them, it won't cost me an arm and a leg and it's intuitive and well organized, I'm happy!

Thanks for your help!

I use SkyDrive to store almost everything. SkyDrive has mobile apps for iOS, Windows Phone, Android and Windows Desktop and 8/RT right now.

Choose between SkyDrive and Google Drive depending on what account you use the most. Check the prices for more storage space as well because you get 7GB on SkyDrive and 5GB with Google Drive.

Another good option is Box.net which from time to time has promos for new accounts. I got 25GB this way and I only use it to store stuff I don't want synched to my devices. It has synching features, but I stick to SkyDrive for that.

Why choose between them when you can use the free service of all of them combined?

I use Dropbox for personal, SkyDrive for Windows files, game saves, backups and Google Drive for work. Works brilliantly.

All services are on their free package (although I've earned a lot of free space from Dropbox) and none of them are anywhere near their limit.

Dur. I can't believe I didn't think of that...not a bad idea. At all. I'll do that as well as look into box.net. Thanks to both of you! With these services I can safely delete some pictures and video and get my space back.

Download astro file manager on your Samsung S2, there is a promo for 15Gb free storage with box.net

Dropbox were also offering some free storage but not sure if that promo has finished. Download dropbox on your phone, and upload some photos.

That storage can then be used on your desktop with the desktop apps

You never said how much space your looking for? Also the new mega.co.nz is online with 50GB free! Just does not autosync from what I can see.

That might be important info. Since my music is already on Play music, I'd say about 50GB. That would get every single picture online.

YEa, Mega.co.nz gives 50gb free storage. They do have an API for developers. I am sure someone will write a mega manager.

and make money from that, reading their T&C if you write a decent app for their API, you get a share of the profits your app brings in.

Wish I knew how to write an app for it. A profitable venture for someone their, however you look at it, mega will be popular.

Anyway, ontopic, OP I also use a few different free services, that way I get more storage like mikeffer said

Here is my question...are you looking for a storage locker for syncing or for backup? Because all of the options given are for syncing between devices (pc/mobile) and really not for backup. One of my biggest grippes with dropbox/sugersync/box/skydrive is that they don't do true selective folder sync...meaning that everything has to be placed into their folder in order to sync.

So are you looking for a sync storage or backup? If a good backup solution then I would look at backblaze/carbonite...etc.

I've written a couple API related apps will have to give this a try.

    • Ridiculous claim that the labor cost difference of $6000 annually would increase cost per phone by $200. The employees produce 3 phones per month or what?
